Availability of the 2016 V7 II Special in the U.S.
« on: November 23, 2015, 11:51:06 PM »
Despite suggestions to the contrary, my local dealer has just told me that the V7 II Special, without the embellishment of the Scrambler kit, is in fact available in the U.S., as it is everywhere else.

To quote:

"To answer your question, the Moto Guzzi V7 II Special is available without the scrambler style pipe. The version with the pipe will be available sometime in Q1 2016. The pricing is $9790 w/o pipe and $10,990 w/ pipe."

That's good to know.   Is the only thing that makes it a "Scramber" the pipe, or are there different tires, or other things?

Also, you'd think that the new "Stornello V7" would replace the "Scrambler".   I'm not big on high pipes, but, do like the red frame.
That solid red frame would be even more "correct" Verde Legnano green body work than the metallic red Racer frame.
They should do a V7 II edition with that color combo, and the fuel tank decals from the V7 Classic.   Add to it a hopped up version of the new 850cc engine, and they'd truly have a "V7 Sport" to sell!

So what are the new colors?  Still red and blue?

Moto Guzzi's international site is often a good indicator of things to come for the US market.    They show red blue, and also black, with an orange stripe.

Sadly, they all just have plain black side tins.     I think that the 2014 with matching side tins looks much better.
I do like the black tail light of the 2016 better than the chrome one on the earlier bike.   I think they should do black powder coat on the grab handles too.

Addendum:  Most dealers would have paid for their 2016 Specials *as* Scramblers, and as such would have a hard time selling them as simply Specials given the price/cost difference.  For instance, we have a couple of them at our shop but have yet to receive the scrambler kits.

The difference is not just high pipes. The USA Scrambler also has knobby tires, a Racer-style fly screen, number plates, and blacked-out parts.

I wonder if Moto Guzzi USA takes left-over bikes that have not yet been taken by dealers, changes some bits, and calls them a new, special model--like the Racer, with its matte finish...

By the way, the regular Special is available in Canada!

So, let me get this straight, then ship the bike as a Special, then ship the Scrambler bits for the dealer to convert, but, they won't let the dealer buy just the Special w/o all the Scrambler bits?

Moto Guzzi US is crazier than I though.

So, did the Specials just not sell well because no one wanted to pay the premium over the price of the Stone?

I think this is part of the reason, yes.  There wasn't a whole lot to differentiate them from the Stone and justify the price increase (at least in the minds of many customers).  Their summer sale though helped us clear every Special we still had in stock so that was nice.

MI has one listed (2015 Special) for $6,700 out the door.  Seems impossible for a new bike like this to be that low.

 The blue is stunning.  Really nice paint in my opinion.

The VIN numbers note the year model.  So, no, the importer does not take last year's bikes and recycle them into next year's bikes.

They have to be sold as the year model that is indicated in the VIN.

10th digit in the VIN:

E = 2014
F = 2015
G = 2016

I certainly benefited from it, as I bought a slightly used one that was one of those sale bikes at a fantastic price!

So $8k with $2k in upgrades already on it. Seems like a pretty good deal.
