On a visit to NYC , we spoke with a guy that kept his R27 BMW parked on the street . He told us that the main problem was folks wanting to ask him what he did to keep people from stealing/vandalizing the old beemer . In ten some odd years he had experienced not one issue

I have never had a bike stolen or vandalized but it did get knocked over a time or two. After I completely re-painted my CX it was knocked over by the local "we train you to drive a truck" place. Fortunately the building superintendent was out front, saw it happen and stopped the guy from taking off which is a bit of rare luck. Dairyland canceled my insurance on that one, said I was a bad risk and I did remind them that the bike was parked.

Sorry about Dairyland . NYC isn't really anymore risky than Muskogee , in fact on our couple of visits the locals treated us very well . We just had to adjust to everyone speaking fast and loud and waving their hands around . (Sorry , emos are on vacation, picture a grin here)

I went away to Western Australia for a month a couple of years ago and when I got back I couldn't find the Griso's primary key. I grabbed one of my spares and went out to the carport, (Open, unlocked.) and found I'd left the primary key in the ignition. Turned it on and he Bugger even started!

Pete

So I'm figuring that'd be the same carport my beasty is residing in ATM.
Could you do me a favour and check you haven't left the key in the ignition. Please

When I visit NYC on my V7C I always cover it and cable lock the wheels to the frame, and pray.  I think it is a must to have some cylinder protectors and a good idea to have saddlebags because when the cars park so many knock the motorcycles over.  They couldn't care less if they damage your bike.  I am not sure if a centerstand would be better than the sidestand.  Might be a good idea to remove the mirrors.  If your building has a door man,  persuade him to keep an eye on it too
