Brembo F09 calipers

I know I have seen a lot of people looking for Brembo F09 48mm calipers for rear delinked brakes on old Moto Guzzis. I just received some parts from Stein Dinse, in the box was a flyer advertising new F09's. $160.

No its not. An F08 uses 38mm pistons and a F09 uses 48. Hard to tell from a distance but the casting in the caliper for the piston is naturally bigger on the F09. Pads are different too.

So what you are saying is 38mm  :+1 :+1 :+1 :+1 :+1 :+1 :+1 :+1 :+1 :+1 :mm's

F09's are a nice replacement for the 850T's front caliper if you want to retain the stock MC. If not the stock F08 and a not stock 10mm MC are what you need.

F09's are not worth it as there is a limited selection of pad compounds. better to stick with the cheaper f08, and use a sticker pad. I'd also bet rebuild kits are NLA for F09's...

That plus F09's hit the bolts that hold composite rotors together on and the buttons on certain floaters

I have a G5 project with delinked brakes and therefore a 15mm front master cylinder for ideal operation of two F08 calipers up front. The stock 15mm rear master will be too big for good action on the stock rear F08 caliper. Theoretically an F09 will work well with the stock master as a 48mm caliper with a 15mm master is a good ratio. That is my plan, does it make sense? Does it require surgery to mount it?

MG Cycle has F09 rebuild kits and pistons.

AFAIK, no surgery will be necessary. Mounts to the same carrier used on the SP, LeMans, etc.

Agreed F09 is a much larger large caliper than the F08. It is all the difference in the world depending on what size your master cylinder is.
When I put the F09 on my 90 Mille the difference in how much effort and feedback I received from the brake handle was dramatically improved. I am 6'5" and hated the F08. It seemed to take my whole fist to slow it down. The F09 is a 2 finger stopper. I still use my whole hand but I know I can stop it with two fingers and have a good feel for what the brake is doing. I am glad to see them back. The big drawback to the F09 is it has 2  6 mm bleeder valves. You need to break them loose 1 or 2 a year hence the lock up and you break the nipple of both of them like I have done.

F08 and F09 use same mounting pattern. It is a turn key operation.

I haven't looked for pads lately for my F09 but Moto International had "sticky" pads for he F09 when they carried the item years ago.

EBC Kevlar organic pads are available. They should provide good braking.

For $200 you don't ask questions. Anyways, I want to actually drop the F09 down to an 8 so I'm matching. Any thoughts?

Should be as simple as unbolting the F09 and replacing with the F08.

Guzziology has a section on the 08-09 interchangeability. Going back to the 08 should be easy. Remove and replace.

Seems to me that the linked system is calibrated for F08 on front left. So I would expect that to change the characteristics???? I believe that some early linked Tonti's used F09 on the rear. Anybody want to clarify that as I am not sure.

The F09 is a seriously big, mean-stopping hunk of a caliper.

About 30 years ago, I bought one from Roger Slater (Mr. Laverda) and adapted it to my '78 H-D Low Rider to replace the woefully inadequate rear banana caliper they used back then.

The Brembo is still going strong and hauling the FXS down smartly (helped by dual PM 4-pistons up front).

That sounds very interesting. Is it dual bleed or single? I will say to everyone that I had to shim the crap out of the F09 to get it to fit right on the fork. The F08 on the right side didn't require any shimming at all. Contact me via email for particulars.

i recently put one on my T5 for front brake as the fluid reservoir  (trapezoid ) was 'too big' for the F8 fitted.  change was immediate and fantastic, at last - a front brake that actually worked.
