MG goofed up my Ti Kit
« on: January 05, 2016, 06:00:10 AM »
I bought a nice 2003 LeMans this past summer. It came with a NIB Ti Kit. It was missing one of the short passenger foot peg/exhaust hangers but I was able to source one from a well known forum member. (Thanks Chuck)

Anyway I put everything out on the work bench last night to look at it again. That's when I realized that I have two right side Ti mufflers. This is based on the fact that the MG racing logo on the rear of the can is facing out with the mufflers held up on the right side of bike. I suppose I can use one on the left side but the logo would face inward.

Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Maybe someone would be willing to trade a right side Ti muffler for a left side Ti muffler that is new or in like new condition.

I've installed a set of those years ago but my memory may be incorrect.  Seems like they had straight front stub-outs that allowed you to mount them with the logo in or out by just flipping the muffler over. If so, you could simply install them both with the logo facing in. Some folks used to do that.

The logo prints were somewhat subdued.  Alternately, having the logo "out" on the right side and "in" on the left is something that few people would ever notice (except you).

I'm trying to visualize "flipping" the muffler over. The exit pipe on the rear is angled so that would not work. In the end mounted as is one would have the logo facing out and the other would face in.

Okay, I stand corrected on the flipping idea. I just seem to remember something about that. You can't swap the left to the right and vice versa to put the logo inside on both? I guess you could perhaps drill out the rivets and replace the endcap after flipping it.

I'm either going to try and find someone with a "left" muffler to trade my extra "tight" muffler with or just mount them as is with one logo facing out correctly and the other muffler logo facing towards the tire.

I could just slap some Yoshimura stickers on them

Then the logo would be upside down, no?

Luigi is a flex employee. Most of the time, he's in charge of under lubing bearings. Once in a while, though, he gets moved to shipping.. this thread and Pete's Roller kit with missing stuff proves that. Occasionally, they try him on the  design board. The early Norge fairing that had to be removed just to check the oil was the result. Maybe, he'll finally retire..he can't be fired. He has incriminating pictures..
