Griso 8v front brake light switch issue

Can anyone help with this?

A couple of people have stopped me recently and said "You're rear light is flashing". I checked the wiring, and jumped up and down on the seat but couldn't find anything.

But eventually I tracked it down to the front brake light switch. There seems to be a lot of play in the lever, and as it bounces around, the brake light flashes. I've dismantled it, and there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust the position of the switch. I've tried a different lever, but had to use the original pin, as the one that came with the lever was too long.

Same issue.

I've bodged it for now by taking up the play between the tang and the switch in the traditional way (duct tape). But it's far from ideal.

Anyone had this? Is the issue caused by wear in the bushing and the pin?

Hi Trog, I've just checked mine and it takes about a good 1/2" of travel at the outside end of the lever for the switch to activate and the plastic plunger comes out of the micro switch a fare way before it clicks. Might be your switch is worn ?

Switches are much cheaper than levers...

Loosen the switch and see if you can push it closer to the lever, 1 or 2 thou can make the world of difference.

Thanks Roy. Yeah, I did try that, but there's virtually no movement in the switch at all. I may have got a few thou, but not enough.

I've ordered a new pin and a switch.

If that doesn't work, I have to assume the wear is in the master cylinder mounting point for the lever. I'm not replacing that, so I think I'd then probably try to build up the thickness of the tang with an epoxy product - it will look more professional than the duct tape!

Duct tape got me through an MOT yesterday though - so it's a decent bodge.

The switch has arrived.

The pin is out of stock.

I'll try changing the switch in the morning before I set off for my 12 miles lunatic urban sprint to work.

Build the pin up with a spot of solder or JB Weld if you have to, I just made one for my EV

Well, I have now tried a different lever, and have replaced the switch. and the pin. And guess what?

Nothing has changed - the brake light still helpfully flashes to indicate that I have traversed a bump. Or three. Or more.

So I think the problem must lie in wear in the front brake master cylinder casting.And I'm damned if I am replacing that!

So...JB weld here I come- I need to take up the play by making  the tang permanently thicker.
