I would like to add, with respect to John's post, that I am in no way opposed to people modifying their bikes.

Okafter reading numerous posts I think I got a plan. For a number of reasons I'm against a reflash @ this point.

Ya know, not for nothing, but I don't get this from a guy who smashed out his cats (which could be blamed if fueling problems cause engine damage to void a warranty claim).

As for the gas analyzer, I think one of the problems potentially could be that a spoofer like the FD's might not change things enough on the first dyno day, but could, over time max out any fuel trim values causing problems then.

At least that's the theoretical problem.

Fwiw I trust Beetle's work because of the way he's presented it.

I can see the attraction of Cliff's system, it's just that now the earlier ECU's are pretty much an open book I can also understand why people shy away from it.

Cliff is a smart bloke, not a shill. If you fancy his system? Go for it.

Pete

MyECU has been great for me.

So the message here seems to be that all dealers are bastards but if you decide to screw about with things you don't understand and it all falls in a screaming heap it's perfectly OK for you to remove or undo the things you've buggered about with so you can return the bike to the dealer, deny you've done anything and scream blue-bloody-murder about how hard done by you are!

Got it. Glad we've cleared that up. And old farts winge about millenials not taking responsibility for their own actions!

Except that you have announced to the world that a spoofer has been installed . You will have a hard time explaining why the engine was ruined to any savvy dealership , trust me , any decent mechanic will recognize what really happened .

I have to ask , why are you against a reflash . Beetle has several satisfied customers , fix it and forget it . Fatducs are a bandaid .

+1  spot on Dusty. I can attest to that:)

My goodness what vitriol & accusations! First the local dealer is a good friend & I'd never try to short them.
I've bought 4new bikes there in last 30+ years! And sent many folks there
If my actions were to lead to engine damage I'd man-up & deal with it
When a mfg. uses a band aid approach the meet emission regs. that's inadequite at best.
Piaggio should have done a better job!
I really like myv7 & am willing to overlook a number of shortcomings I knew this going in
But this drivability borders on unsafe!

Emission compliance is a tough issue for all OEM's.
As for the drivability of your bike, that's a shame.  I've been on several V7's stock out of the crate and they've all been acceptable.
Good luck.  I'm with the boys here, though.  A good remap is the simple solution and works a treat.  I'd never use a "fooler" when a permanent good solution is available.

As always, YMMV.

OK , and maybe there was some vitriol on display , sorry .

Here is the deal , and this is really what we are trying to impress upon you . Spoofers aren't really a fix for the issue , and they have been known to cause harm . By the time you jump thru all the hoops making one work , and then it doesn't fix the problem W/O becoming problematic , you could have done what hundreds have done and installed a map from Beetle that fixes the underlying problem . We as a group are struggling with the logic of doing something that doesn't truly work as opposed to a tried and true solution . In the end this is your motorbike , you can do with it as you please , but the board as a whole is resistant to bad ideas , and the group is attempting to steer you in a better direction .

I appreciate your reply & understand. Unfortunately I'd have to get a real computer & learn how to do a reflash . I now what I'm doing is a bandaid approach but in the short term its my only available option
Somehow I don't think my AARP tablet is capable of doing a reflash. But I'm trying to learn. Thanks for the help
