Wife likes a 2015 KIA Soul

I keep a 2012 Kia Soul in Phoenix at the vacation house we share with my business partner.

I have to say the KIA Soul has been one of the best cars I have ever owned. My daily driver is a BMW 550Xi, so recommending the Kia in comparison to my long experience owning BMW's is saying a lot in my opinion.

The Kia Soul is a 2wd with the larger motor, it is loved but ridden hard and put to bed wet.

We have had it for three plus years now and every one who drives it just loves it, plenty of pep, holds 5 and 4 comfortably, real big doors for easy loading, lots of room behind the back seat, good on gas. Done several trips on the interstate to Flagstaff, Tucson and Palm Springs, comfortable, and reasonably quiet.

I would buy one again without hesitation.

I had one as a rental for about a week, and it was enough for me to never consider buying one.  I drove it from Dana Point to Lake Elsinoreand back via the Ortega Highway, and the handling in the twisties was horrible.  It's not well insulated for noise, and I thought the interior cloth and plastic was on the cheap side.

This was in 2011, so things may have changed with the vehicle.

We have them in the UK. Good engines with seven year warranty but the interiors aren't great and they are getting more expensive now the brand is established.

Angela Lansbury drives one.
They tend to be owned by pensioners who could easily buy a more up market vehicle and could easily make do with something more basic for the miles they do but buy the Kia because they have other priorities want something reliable, smart, and hassle free.

Let your wife decide what she wants, she could easily have chosen something more expensive or less dependable.

Just kidding...Kia is the new Honda.  My dad has owned Acura/Honda since 1980 and can also afford more but just bought a new Kia in Dec.

I always think of Kia's (and some other brands) as being owned by people who don't actually like driving and just need some reasonable transport.

Now they might be smarter than the rest of us in recognising a good car - heck the Kia comes with a 7 year/100,000 mile warranty over here which makes for cheap motoring.

If you treat it as a throwaway commodity and keep it for a long time then the low resale value wont be an issue

Theyre not bad looking either - unlike the SsangYong - some of them got a serious beating from the ugly stick

That Ssangyong looks like the seating was designed by someone from Spirit Airlines.  WRT the KIA Soul, we see a blue million of them around here, apparently people love the little buggars.  The only bad thing is the "KIA" name if you can remember the Vietnam years.  Good luck with your upcoming purchase!

My daughter has one and loves it. Had 1 recall on it that I heard about but no real problems. She likes it so well she convinced her son (who works for Chrysler as an engineer) to buy one. He has had the same one recall and no other problems.

I bought a new Soul in 2010 and will say, there is no more bang for the buck in the car market today.  I have the 2L engine and have never had a problem keeping up with freeway traffic.  When the traffic slows I can't remember owning a car that was more fun squirting through and around the lumbering SUVs.  As far as cornering ability I would say to the gent who thought the handling was off that perhaps the tire pressures were off.  I love driving this thing up to the ski resorts around Salt Lake and it goes just fine in the snow, better than most.  The interior has an amazing amount of room, even my 6 foot 3 inch son loves driving it.  The seat covering will take almost anything you would spill on it and it wipes off.  Yes it is built to a price point but all cars are, right? I have 80K miles on the little bugger and plan to drive it well past the 100K mile drivetrain warranty.

I recently took a survey on new cars and one of the questions asked how important is it that the car looks cute and friendly
Another question asked if the car should be intimidating
It all comes down to life style choice
If she likes the car she will probably be happy with it
A Focus or Mazda 3 is probably a better practical choice
But even Ben and Jerry make more than one flavor

Not a Soul, but..........

we bought a new Sorento in 2008. Other than a headlight bulb, repairs cost us nothing for six years. We sold it to our son last year and at that time it needed a few minor bushings etc, but was otherwise perfect, and with no rust, despite our salt/snow sodden winters. It's now pushing 200,000 miles with no signs of any trouble.

We bought a new Sorento last fall.

Kia makes good stuff.

My wife likes the Tesla. She test drove the self-driving and really liked the self parking feature.
How can I talk her into a Kia?
