Thunderbird was the fortified wine in my neighborhood.  The Steven F. Austin college wimps drank Annie Greensprings.

Yup'er.

T'Bird was the one that came immediately to mind:

"What's the word? / Thunderbird / How's it sold? / Good and cold / What's the jive? / Bird's alive / What's the price? / Thirty twice."

Of course, by the time I heard this after joining the Army it had "inflated" to: "What's the price?... A dollar twice".

Wanna groove to some "bum wine" history? Kill some time over here:

Around here it was Richards Wild Irish Rose. Back in the day the Rose was 21%. Over the years its been watered down to now where its only 17%. A good friend told me he would drink no wine that had a cork in it.

Man... Do ever miss Strohs! But was it fire brewed from Detroit river water or brewed of inflammable Detroit water which was? :boozing:

Certainly one of my favorite Dead songs. That whole album (what's that? :) ) was great.

John- saw 4.  One in their favorite venue at the Coliseum in Hampton VA and another show at the Downs in Manor TX on Jerry's 40th birthday.

Both shows' recordings are on their web site.

The other two shows were in Okla (Fairgrounds Arena and Lloyd Noble Arena)

Five of us cut afternoon classes, rolled up our Catholic School Blazers and stuffed them in the back of my '63 VW sedan.  Drove from Dallas to Austin to see the Dead  at the Austin Coliseum.  Riders of the Purple Sage opened.  Enjoyed the concert and all the accoutrements. Hooked up with some nubile young ladies crashed at their place for part of the night.  Left about 3AM.
Arrived back at school Tuesday? morning smelling of stale beer, ripple?, various types of smoke, and musk.  It was the beginning of the end of my high school career and my life in Big D.  Still hang out with the other 4 guys.  Two of us eventually moved to Austin.  One married one of the girls he met at the concert.

It was a golden time.  Glad I got to experience it.  (and survived)

I was at 16 shows...but I'm not sure...I don't think I was there for two of them.

Favorite a toss up between Oct 29 1980 Radio City, Sept 3 1977 at Englishtown Racetrack or Sept 2 1978 at Giants Stadium with Willie Nelson and New Riders.
