V7 genuine rear rack - mount kit missing
« on: February 11, 2016, 05:40:50 AM »
Hi mates,

Just started to put some accesorries on my V7C and I realized that the rear rack shipped with the bike doesn't have the mount kit. So now I have to find to buy it separate if it's possible or improvise something (and pray they won't rust).
Any idea what exactly that kit contains? How many screws, what dimensions? Are they replacing the current ones fitting the rear shocks? Are they chromed or black depending on the kit colour?

Thank you very much for your input.

All the best from sunny Romania.

Daniel

P.S. Of course I can remove the current screws and check but honestly I would appreciate if someone can tell me how the originals look like

If I recall you remove the grab handles and use the existing hardware.

OEM or HB?

I think on the HB there was longer replacement hardware, but it was 3 years ago so I'm not 100%/

The grab handles were already removed by the "smart guys" , the bike came without them and the rack was shipped afterwards. So I don't know what screws are there now. Just to have some fun with my story I will shortly explain it: the bike was on sale on the internet with the pictures of the bike containig the OEM windscreen and the OEM rear rack. As they were an official Guzzi dealer somewhere in Southern Italy I said ok, it should be all fine.

The bike was delivered without the rack but honestly being so excited I did not observed it is missing...until my girlfriend asked me what she will grab when all the horses will be unleashed  :whip2: . So I called the dealer back to thank for being so clever and to send me the rack. And as a reward for being naughty and ask for what I paid, they sent it without the mounting kit.

Anyway, the story is longer than that, for example at my ver first ride some oil start leaking from the valve cover: they told me that they will fully service the bike before sendig it so that's what they did...but without replacing the gaskets after the valve check... They simply put back the covers with the old gasket broken, big parts missing from the cylinder head edges.

So here I am now, asking for help even though at a certain point I will take off the current screws and see what I can do.

P.S. I'm thinking to write my aquisition adventure on a new post, to have some fun about the Italian pizza makers...sorry, mechanics I mean

I have mkI classic
I don't think there's a lot of difference although your rear fender is slightly different or at least I believe it is missing the black plastic inner part.

The rack I have does not require a mounting kit.

It mounts to the top of the rear shocks (may possibly require a large washer but I think that's needed also for shocks without rack) and under the seat. Mounting requires 4 bolts already on the bike and required for other purpose.

Under the seat there should be two (think M8 bolts approx 2") bolts going through the frame and rear fender secured by dome nut and washer under the fender. if you did not have these your rear fender would not be secured.

might help if you photo what you currently have:

Think bolts are probably these:

- with matching dome head nuts.

Thank you very much for the photo explanation and the link, they're quite relevant for now.

I will have a look and post some photos as you mentioned.
The weather is still unfriendly here so I still have some spare time for crafting

Get the ridgid new black valve cover gaskets.  Very reusable and don't tear.

Hi Cam,

Thanks for the hint, I already put on the bike the new ones otherwise I couldn't enjoy the ride. And yes, the new ones are better and the only option for now as the old fashion gaskets are out of production.

All the best and thousands revs!
