Clutch noise differences - Norge vs Griso
« on: February 16, 2016, 01:39:16 PM »
Folks...

I've been riding the 2015 Griso a bit more to get some miles on it, and I notice that when I pull in the clutch to engage 1st gear, there is virtually NO noise at all.  When I compare that to my 2008 Norge, I have always heard since new a bit of raspiness, and although it's not getting worse, it makes me wonder why the difference.

I presume both are dry clutches...is there a significant design improvement in the newer Guzzi vs old or is there some other explanation?

Could it be that the Norge clutch needs adjusted a tiny bit to clear the clutch catching when pulled?

If I'm, completely off, it's because I know nothing about those two bikes

I assume that your 2008 Norge, like my 2008 1200 Sport, has the dual disc clutch. This jingles with the lever pulled in.

Did they change the clutch on the 8v engines that you would have in your Griso?

I'd expect the answer is in the newer clutch design.

Thanks both for the speedy replies, it could be both!

I have to study the schematic a bit, and check with Mike/Larry at MPH when I take the Norge in for the regular service here shortly.  All works perfectly, just that little noise delta.  Fun now as well to note that the Griso is starting to pop a little on decel as well...which is also more reminiscent of the Norge...but it's noticeably more "buzzy" thru the handlebars than the Norge...just needs a quick 10,000 miles on it to get smoother I should imagine!

The single plate clutches go quiet with the clutch lever pulled in, opposite to the twin plate versions.

Has the 2015 Griso gone single plate?

Different clutches I think. Don't know, but suspect the Norge has a dual plate clutch, so it will jangle a bit when disengaged. The Griso has a single plate clutch that  doesn't jingle - well , mine does, anyway.

Then I believe you have hit on the source of the difference there...sounds logical!
