Couldn't stand it
« on: February 20, 2016, 02:53:17 PM »
Normally, I'm ok with letting sleeping motorcycles lie during the Winter layup any more.
But.
It's 67 effin degrees in Indiana in the middle of February.  I'm going to have a little medical proceedure in the middle of March, so no telling when I'll get to ride again.
So...
In to the Experimental Department..

Hmmm, wonder if it'll start? It's been since 11-11-15 since it's run. Turned on the fuel, gave it a couple of pumps of accelerator pump, some choke, and the Aero engine *might* have rolled over one time before it was running.  Do that with a modern injected bike.
Be still, my beating heart, what a great sounding engine. Admittedly, it didn't want to idle off choke, an injected engine would have done that. No matter, kept the rpms up for a half mile or so until it warmed up and it settled down to a lumpy idle. Naturally, if it's this warm in the Midwest at this time of year it's because of a big frontal passage complete with wind. It was blowing 20 out of the west. No matter, I'll just go east and west.  Not going anywhere, just wanted to operate the machine. Wow! What a sweet runner.. I'd almost forgotten.

Chuck,

Likewise...but its 75 down here in Vincennes. Got the '02 V11 out. First time I was able to appreciate the Staintunes I bought off a fellow member. Wow...sounds great!

Then went back out on the FJR. No real wind here today so nice riding in any direction.

Don't worry it was -28F in Yellowknife this morning and it is headed your way in modified form. Just wait a few days.

Great report! And a nice photo.

My T3 started right up today too, with barely a crank. It always does.

Sometimes what looks the best, isn't the best. I think a Quentin Tarentino character said that.

(Not that your bike doesn't look the best! I'm thinking more of a comparison between my two.)

Sounds like we both had the same set of options ...... leave the bikes in the garage and enjoy the 60 degree sunshine today, or dust off one of the beasts and chance the road salt and melt-off puddles.  I made the same decision ..... old R100GS came off the Tender, got her tires up to correct pressure, and spent the next 2 hours or so simply riding around the National Park.  I'm working on scheduling a 'little' procedure, too ...... time for a valve job.  Gotta determine if I want to moo like a cow, oink like a pig, or sound like a clicking relay!  Good luck to you with your procedure!

Lots of posers out yesterday for the first time while the sun was shining......you sure can tell by all the shiny new chrome do-dads and the new riding gear. I satisfy my urges by doing the make ready maintenance. There will be plenty of time to ride soon enough. Only 54 degrees yesterday and just 30 something today..... :boozing:

Fantastic!  From what I know, seems like nothing starts faster than a carb small block, like Chuck said, if you get even one rotation your lucky!

As for your little surgery, don't sweat it, sexual reassignment surgery is far more routine than when you looked into it a few years back, you'll do great!  Is Brad down with calling you Chas?
