Only thing that worried me was that some of these guys probably make their living with these things as taxis on the street, and they're not easy to come by.

On the other hand, maybe between the inevitable betting and "sponsorships", they come out ahead.   Besides, those vehicles will take a licking and keep on ticking.   Looks like they're having a great time.

Great post, thanks!  I love racing in its pure form, before things escalate to million dollar budgets and highly paid drivers.  Some of the best races I ever saw were the weekly boat races in Ocean City, NJ in the '60s and '70s.  There were no classes, just "run what you brung".  I saw some wildly exciting stuff.

 As for the no shoes required, Would say they are most certainly recommended for the crew that has to hop on and off to keep it upright.

When you're used to not wearing shoes, you rarely need shoes.  When you wear shoes all the time, you need to always wear shoes.   :)
