1974 Eldorado not sleeping in barn anymore.

Hello Everyone,
 Walter is coming back to life. A few months ago I rescued a long sought after Eldorado and have had engine gone through. Am now a few hours away from starting it again. I removed engine, transmission and brought it to local shop for renewal. Not bad so far only one missing bolt and two extra washers  .
One thing that has me baffled is lever at transmission to shifter won't tighten at shaft. I don't see anything missing, however the lever does not have slice in it to allow bolt to pinch lever to shaft on transmission. maybe 42 years of spooge kept it from coming off. Any thoughts?
Also the rear drive has now drain bolt so I suspect the obvious is to remove lower cover, how much gear oil will spill out when I remove it?

The lever should have a "slice" in it, otherwise it can pinch shut. Are you sure it's the right lever?

The "deep sump" rear drive doesn't have a drain plug, loosen the six socket head cap screws and let it drain. Loosen the two towards the front only a little, then remove the rest. The sump tilts down and drains as much as it can. Still makes a mess when you remove it completely.

Thanks Charlie, Thanks for the help I am sure that the lever is original. I will attempt to cut slice in it. As far as pictures, don't know procedure to do it.
