2009 Stelvio Menu Code Insert Fail
« on: March 07, 2016, 07:47:23 AM »
I am not the original owner of this bike.
I am trying to familiarize myself with all the Stelvio has to offer.
I turn the key on to boot the menu.
Slide/Press the Mode button to Menu.

Press to enter/Slide to Diagnosis/Press.
Insert the Service Code.
Tried the default 00000:
Incorrect Code.
Exit to Settings/Slide to: Change The Code.
Insert 2nd key/Enter 00000.
Fail upon retry of Service Code.
What am I missing?
Is Service Code different from User Code?

user code is the one that you can enter yourself, and maybe previous owner did. The service code is to get into the service menu (and was only for dealers). Only they wrote the number in the workshop manual and now everyone knows it.

Paul, thanks for the clarification.
What benefit is the user code?
And could you share the Service Code here or via pm?

Stelvio service code is 10695 from memory or 10965, one of the two.

The purpose of the user code is to add a bit more security. If someone forces the ignition lock or damages the antenna or if the antenna simply fails and the key is not recognised the dashboard won't allow the bike to start unless the user code is inserted. It will flash up a message on the screen telling you as much. Insert the code and you can then start the bike and ride home or to the shop or wherever.

It's 10695.
I'd put in a user code, if I were you. I'd like to know that when that stupid immobilizer fails out in BFE that I could get it running..

The best bet, if possible, is to ask the previous owner what user code he/she entered.

Failing that, it's a guessing game.

Aside from the service code (as above), another popular choice has been the last 5 digits of the bike's serial number. I'd try that.

Or it could be the PO's birthday, his kid's birthday, the final day of the Mayan calendar, etc.!

As long as you have two keys you can change the code to one of your own without needing to know the old one. Just use the 'Code recovery' function and follow the prompts.

Thank you for the clarification.
I will enter my own security code.
And try the service code.
Appreciate the help.

And write it down in the user manual, that I suppose you got with the bike. The service code I have written at the backside of the passenger seat, so I have it always with me on the road.

Mission accomplished.
10695 is the service code.
Reset the user code and recorded both.
Just for fun, I set it to read kms instead of miles.
Thanks!

I set it to read kms instead of miles.

You can do that?  somewhere along the way Guzzi took that option off the list.  You can change C to F and 12hr to 24hr, but not km to mi.  That's a bother when traveling between France and U.K (or between U.S. and Canada) and you'd like to use the signage convention.  ...unless it's been hidden in a different spot.

Is it not still an option in the diagnostics me up Daniel? I haven't got one in at the moment so I can't check! Sorry.

You must have looked at the wrong place. Why would Guzzi take that option out, to make that they need to stock 2 types of dashes? Why bike could you not find it?

I'm sure all instrument dashes are identical and that the km/mi selection can be made a different way than by using the mode switch on the handlebar.  In any event, it doesn't show in the Stelvio manual.

not in the owner manual, it is supposed to be in the same area so the dealer should set it, and thus in the service menu with the secret code .

So, you've got to be a member of the secret ten-six-nine-five society to do that. Lay people can change Celsius to Fahrenheit, but nothing more...

Thanks for the note.  Next time I cross a border I'll know what to do (to avoid that tricky mental math).
