in my v7 racer one exhaust pipe is bluer than the other
« on: March 22, 2016, 04:00:22 PM »
So, as i said my v7 racer has one pipe bluer than the other at the cylinder head... what does this mean? also I feel by sound that the bluer side runs (idle) more even, the other side runs/sounds more "bumpy"

thanks!

Hi Papa Lazarou, what do you think about the bumpy idle with the "less blue" side (right cylinder)? ... the left side sounds like "pot pot pot pot pot pot" ...very even! but the other side (right) sounds: "pot jack pot pot jack jack potjack potjack  pot"

My 2008 Breva has one pipe bluer than the other which I attribute to difference in chrome more than anything.   A recent pull of the sparkplugs showed both burning at the same heat, a little leaner than I'd normally like, however in the normal range.  Modern motors all seem to burn a little on the lean side to meet pollution and mileage regulations.

I wonder if the ecu DFCO cuts fuel and spark to one side under engine braking or when the traction control kicks in so one side would run hotter than the other unless your motoring along at a constant  :cool:speed - but even if this were so you might only notice the difference in blueness for a few hundred mile when the bike is very new if at all? This is just my guess.
After how many miles did this first become apparent?
What kind of use does the bike get?

Edit: Still worth checking the tappets. Do you get less tappet noise from the Blue side?

Hi pikipiki, thanks for your answer.

My v7r doesn't have traction control. This became apparent right from the beginning, i use this bike every day and i am quite kind to her ;)

two weeks ago i did the valve/head adjustment. Tappet noise is subtle, and its the same for both sides, but as I said the less blue side sounds uneven at the exhaust when idle.

I'm sorry that this isn't a contribution to the answer you're seeking.. but I'm curious. I've never owned a new cycle before this one (V7C), and my pipes are at a lovely blue right now.. I quite like it. What happens in the future? Any loose idea how long they'll stay like that, and what happens after the blue phase? Will they lose their shine and get dull? Inquiring minds wonder.
