There was a post a couple months ago about lost title services, etc. I used a title service that deals with the state of Vermont. I said then I would report on the process. Others have pointed out that a person could contact Vermont DMV directly, D.I.Y. and save the fee. Anyway, soon after payment, I was issued a Vermont registration, tags, and a week later, ownership paperwork. I insured the bike, took the packet to the Oklahoma DMV, and they misread the Vermont info and refused me a title. I called Vermont DMV ,they called Oklahoma and after a half hour, Oklahoma DMV called me and said my Oklahoma title would be issued and arrive in a week or so.

So,
the process works. Your local DMV may need schooled on the process, but it does work. Much easier to get paperwork for a vehicle 15 years old or older. It was not cheap (about 235 bucks, 65 of which was sales tax), but I now have a legal, low mileage, very low number 2001 Triumph Bonneville. Those old Eldos and Ambos with no title are no longer a lost cause or parts bike. Here they are :
