Having spent some time in Russia I can attest to the fact that using pedestrian crosswalks is a little like playing Frogger. You simply do not dilly dally around while crossing the street. Some cities are better than others such as Saint Petersburg, but out in the country or in some of the more rural areas? It is almost complete anarchy.

While in Asian countries the rule of "mass kicks ass" governs right of way.  No such thing as a pedestrian crossing a street in traffic and expecting a semi with trailer stopping for you.
