Another NC Guzzi 'Rally'?
« on: February 18, 2016, 09:11:50 AM »
This one is listed on the MGNOC calendar, being held May 5th thru 7th.
The "rally" is not to replace the official NC rally, held in August.
I've been to the campground several times for BMW Airhead rallies; not a bad place, but waaay off in the middle of nowhere.

May 5 to May 7, 2016
    NORTH CAROLINA GUZZI SPRING CAMPOUT

High Country Motorcycle Campground, 765 Stoney Fork Road, Ferguson, North Carolina 28624. Between Wiksboro and Boone North Carolina. This will coincide with the Poverty Riders International (PRI) Campout. This is not a rally, no registration, and you pay for your own camping and pass the hat for food or potluck. Contact: High Country Motorcycle Campground for cabin reservations: 336-973-3911.

I saw that listed. May try to do that.

In fact when I looked it up a couple of weeks back, Google Maps had the campground a few miles off. I sent a map update to Google and they moved it. I hope I got the right spot.

I don't know if there actually is a town of Ferguson per se, if so I've never seen it.
I've wondered if the past if the campground and surrounding farmlands constitute Ferguson
But, the campground site's map show GPS coordinates, if they're accurate.

I'll be curious to see how the 'rally' develops. Someone(s) obviously had the idea and put things together, but I don't if anyone is technically in "in charge" and organizing things.
The campground does have nice cooking facilities and serves breakfast and dinner for larger groups, and there is a BMW Poverty Rider's rally going on then as well, so who knows what will be available.
In the past at the Airhead rallies, 2 kegs of good import have been tapped around 5:00 each day as well.

The original N.C. rally was held at High Country back in the early 90's. It's off the beaten path and no town is nearby. Not far from Boone and the Parkway though. Nice tight country roads getting there once you are off Rte 421

Was High Country owned/run by a guy named "Turkey Tom" originally? I remember staying there back in '86 or '87 on my way to the Guzzi rally in Rockingham. Was on my original Le Mans 1000. "Camped" in a little cabin situated beside a pond IIRC.

The official NC Guzzi rally was  held there for 2-3(?) years. Had  "interesting" dealings w/Turkey Tom. At one of the rallies I attended there were problems w/the bathrooms. Tom got pissed & nailed them shut (more a problem for the ladies than the guys)
