Baxley Sport v. Baxley LA stand for '13 V7 Stone
« on: April 26, 2016, 01:18:42 AM »
Hi,
I am new so please excuse if this is a dumb question, but...
I've seen the Baxley chock recommended here and elsewhere and want to buy one for my bike.  The Amazon description for their Sport model says:
"The Baxley Sport Chock is built strong for securing sportbike motorcycles and scooters with 16" or 17" wheels from 110-130mm wide in the upright position."
The description from the Baxley website states:
The Sport Chock is specifically designed for sportbikes with a 120/70-17" tire but will work with a 110/90-19 or a 130/90-16
The front tire on my V7 is 100/90 - 18. Is that too narrow to work with the Sport?
Do I need to spend the extra and get the LA model which is adjustable?  Anyone use the Sport model successfully with this size front wheel?  Thank you.

Do you plan to use the chock for servicing the bike, or leaving it parked upright in the garage?

I have a Condor chock that is VERY heavy duty.  When I had bikes without a centerstand (including an 800 lb harley), I could easily leave the bike parked upright in the garage and not worry.

I own two Baxley Sport Chocks and they work great with your front tire.  I mounted one of them on the front of my Harbor Freight lift table so I can ride the bike directly into the chock with no worries that it's going to come out until I want it out. (I store my V7 on the HF lift and park my BMW behind the table).
I use the other Baxley when I need to trailer either of the bikes by just putting it at the front of the trailer and then tying down everything.  My son has also borrowed it several times to trailer his bikes.

how much is it? I use a ride in chock from Harbor Freight $40.00.. (guzzi content) it works just as well as the Condor and others that cost hundreds.

Gotta disagree.  I have both, and the quality is night and day.  If it's not going to be bolted down, don't cheap out.

if you fasten a board under it so the rear tire weight is on the board it's rock solid.

My one gripe with the Baxley is that it slides on my epoxied garage floor when trying to load a bike. I move it around so I don't want to permanently fasten it to the ground. I put a piece of tool box shelf liner under the feet to give them more grip, but that only works until it gets dusty and starts sliding again. Does anybody have a good solution for a sliding chock?

A thick, heavy-rubber door mat that you can pick up at Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, etc.
I have two garages and was using one of my Baxleys in the other garage for a period time (that garage has an epoxy floor coating).  The rubber mat solved the problem on my floor.

as above, fasten a thin piece of wood that the rear tire sits on and it can't slide anywhere.

WOW, you guys are really quick, did not expect responses already! :azn:

To answer the questions - Price right now for the Sport chock on Amazon is $180. + 25 shipping.

I plan to park it on the stand and also use it for some maintenance - oil change, new luggage rack etc.  Thanks for the advice on slippage, I have an old rubber truck bed mat that I usually do my service on. Since the Baxley has a latch that secures the, er, rocking piece, I expect that it will be quite safe in supporting the bike.

Thanks so much for your feedback.

Save for having a son I have done exactly the same thing and could be happier with my Baxley Sports. :thumb:

When the front tire is sitting in the cradle with the latch fastened (up position), the bike isn't going to come out of the cradle.  There's two positions for setting how deep the tire sits in the cradle.  The first position makes it easier to get the bike out of the cradle and the second is where I put it when it's on the trailer.  It would probably be fine in the first position when it's on the trailer because the bike is tied down in four places but I'm the super cautious type.
BTW:  You can buy the Baxley Chock directly from Baxley for the same price (in the black color) and the actual seller on Amazon is probably Baxley selling through Amazon.  Either way, it's a high quality product.
