He offered the fly -n- ride deal but I'm of the school of thought that riding home on 300+ miles on interstate is a poor way to break-in a new bike.  I'll be trucking mine home to the twisties where I live.

I've heard many buyers spend time around Seattle riding at different speeds and then having the dealer do the 600? mile inspection before they ride home.  That could be done over a couple days.

I've also heard if you don't buy your new bike from your local dealer they won't want to do the follow up right after the sale and that is supposed to be illegal in the US but I know of at least 1 dealer who says that.

I bought a new Piaggio MP3 in norCal and trailered it all the way to Arizona, then took it to it's 1st dealer inspection (625 miles) another 175 miles from my house. The only reason I did that is the same scooter was not available anywhere in Arizona at the time.

Well I suppose you could do 600 miles in one town in stop -n- go driving in a couple of days but that wouldn't be too fun or practical for me. I have a good relationship with a former dealer near me that will do the 600 service no problem. 

My break-in road is a 52 mile round trip of mountain hills and twisties, speeds from 20-70 mph, takes me just over an hour, perfect.  About a dozen trips over a few weeks and then I'm ready for the open road.

Sounds like the mountains east of Seattle. Having lived (with my T) on Vashon Island, I'd break in a new bike with a couple of days looping the state routes to Yakima, Wenatchee, Okanagan.

The last few bikes and cars I bought weren't from the closest dealer, and it wasn't that I had any problems with the closer dealer- The more distant dealer simply had the model I wanted in stock. For parts and service I've been patronizing the closest dealer, provided they can supply the parts or service needed. Thus punishing a customer for buying elsewhere like the farm equipment dealers are doing is small minded- the nearer dealers will make far more profit from the vehicle over it's lifetime than the dealer who made a slim profit selling it to me in the first place.

True that.  My local powersports dealer says he makes his money in the shop, not in sales

Why are some afraid to break in a Guzzi by riding it? The big Breva was just another bike that I put `1,000 miles on in the first day. Top speed according to Mike Haven of MPH was over 100.

Go ahead and ride the damn thing.
