'98 EV Scheduled Obsolescence

We have two '98 EVs.  Back in December, Regina's began to smell badly of fuel leakage.  I had replaced the pressure side FI hoses many years ago.  This leak was from the unpressurized return line from the regulator into the top/front of the tank.  Numerous longitudinal cracks through the rubber and through the internal web reinforcing.  The hose is original GATES labelled hose.  18  years old.  Cleverly, when I bought replacement hose I got TWO sets.  Yesterday I took my EV out and didn't get far before the same overwhelming aroma.  Yup, same hoses.  Right on schedule.  Its as if there was a regulated, specific life expectancy of these components.  If you have a 98 EV and that hose is original, I'd suggest you get the parts on hand so as to be ready when it hits.  The big hose to the top/front of the tank is GU30108770.  The small short hose from the fuel filter to the regulator is 3010820700.  Both of these have banjo end fittings and compression ends for the hose so I opted to get OEM parts rather than try to custom fab replacements.

I replaced all or just about all of the hoses on my Bassa last year. It was a pain in the neck--I think there were around 15 hoses to replace and some were quite difficult to get in place. But if I'm good for another 10-15 yrs, that's not too bad.

Like most Guzzi's of the era they were obsolete the day they rolled out of the factory, I'd expect to be working through the bits than tend to perish with time. I doubt however the hoses from the factory were anything particularly exotic so providing they'll handle fuel and the pressure wouldn't have any hesitation with replacing them with something else.

The replacement hoses are also 20 years old on account of they haven't been making them much lately.  I'd replace with the good Gates marine injection hose.  It's expensive stuff, but you can't do better.
