toy motorcycle...new one

All,

To commemorate riding in SW Colorado again, I picked up this cool little motorcycle toy in Silverton.  Seller has a very neat antique shop.  Burned four years ago, they rebuilt and now are restocking.  Here is the little police rider.  Bike looks like an old Triumph?

Do you have a favorite toy motorcycle?  I remember having one similar to this toy moto when I was maybe 6 years old.  Always loved little toy trucks and cars and airplanes, etc.

The motorcycle looks to me like a hybrid between a Triumph (or other British upright) and a Harley Davidson (pre-1949 judging from the front end that appears to be a springer). Maybe the rider isn't sure if he wants to be a cop or Marlon Brando.

Years ago my mate swapped practices for 6 months and went to a town on the border between England and Scotland. On arrival back here he presented me with a VERY NICE die cast model of a 900 bevel drive Ducati with the words, "this will be as close as you will probably get to owning one'. He was right of course (he knew I always lusted after one). However, I think I enjoy riding my Breva more than I would a bevel drive.

The model still has pride of place however,

I had one of those little green ones when I was a kid.  Exactly like that one.  Also some solid rubber trucks.  I remember specifically a green pickup truck with yellow wheels that 'matched' the motorcycle and a smaller scale ambulance.  The made good 'sandbox' toys.

Then came the Tonka Truck phase.  Those things were stout!.

Matchbox were our favorites as we neared our teens.  My brother and I had about 200 of them at one time.  I remember just about every week when we'd get paid for our chores we'd ask to go to the store to buy some more.  The 'std' cars were $0.52 each (that included the 3 cent tax).  My brother's grandson now has the ones that survived our abuse :)

Made by Auburn Rubber Co. in the 40's and 50's - came in many colors and sizes, Obviously a vertical twin (Triumph from the peroid?)    :thumb:  - - and they are NOT cheap on fleaBay!

JJ,

Thanks so much for the info.  Yes, I see the Auburn lettering on the front fender.  I paid market rate at the Silverton antique store.

Remember buying these and getting these rubber trucks and cars and motorcycles.  Long ago...this one is in fantastic shape.

I collected motorcycle toys just like for years!  Sold my entire collection on eBay awhile ago.  Interesting and addicting hobby, and like all antiques...CONDITIO N is everything! :thumb:

I like making em not keeping em.

Check out the Wingnuts model company that New Zealand Director Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) created to make extreme high quality injection molded kits, mostly WWI aircraft. Hundreds of dollars for the kit.

Stop motion build of one of his kits. Super Duper Nice!  :thumb:

Penderic,

Been lusting after a Wingnuts kit for a long time.  Built this Roden (?) kit a few years back.  Modeled after one Lieutenant Hermann Goering.  He was quite an airman and leader in WW I.  I LOVE WW I aircraft!

Peter Jackson has his own WW1 flight show up in Blenheim each year. Have not been yet but reports reckon it is truly fabulous.
