There were lot's of modern bikes, somewhat over 30 Stelvios but I just snapped what I found interesting.

Thought I would post a few pictures of the rally at John Day.  What a great time it was, great hosts, people and weather.  Couldn't ask for a better weekend.

3332 KM / 2070 miles, seven days of sunshine, great company along the way and my first Guzzi rally turned out great!

The old Loop ran flawlessly other than a fuel line that split in the hotel parking lot in Omak WA. I carried a few extra feet of hose so all was good after hosing down the fuel spill in the parking lot.

Great pictures Roy!

It was a pleasure to have met up with you and so many other of the fellas who post here.

Glad to see so many other Canadians ventured south to meet our American cousins, great hosts all of them.

Looking forward to next year now that the ol Loop has earned my trust for the long rides.

Cheers

Jim

Did a drive up to Hoh,  yesterday. Walked about a mile and then headed south to Ocean Shores for the night. Running farther down the coast today, though not sure how far.  New back tire is holding up well. Time for an oil change soon.
Tried to ride up by Mt St Helen but the road was closed due to an avalanche. Had to turn back and drive and hour back to I5.

An outstanding rally in John Day - it was very well organized.  There was wonderful riding with Carlo, Simon and Doug, and got to meet some great people.  Had a great time!  Here are some of my pictures.

Did a comparison of a 2000 MuZ 660 Tour single, a 2004 750 Breva, and a new 2016? V7II.  Rode the MuZ 660 to the Rally and test rode the V7II.  I believe all 3 are rated for 48 hp.  I got the MuZ before the Breva and when I got the Breva it made the MuZ feel like an inferior machine because the Breva felt like a Swiss watch it was so refined in so many ways.  Over 40K miles the Breva still feels that way and the MuZ still feels the same, tho they are both capable of doing what they are designed to do.  I hear so much about how great the V7s are I wanted to see for myself if they were really better than my 750 Breva.  Well I have to tell you I was sorely disappointed!   Now I'm talking about feel, precision, that sort of thing.  The V7 vibrated far more than my Breva in all rpms........power wise I don't know if there is any difference because I rode the MuZ to the Rally, and the MuZ single definitely does not accelerate like the Breva.  I didn't even like the foot shifter & brake levers on the V7 as they are too wide, IMHO.  The foot pegs felt placement just like my Breva.  The V7 seat felt good but I only rode it a short while.  Both the V7 excessive vibes and snatchy tranny shifting really turned me OFF!  The 18" front wheel doesn't compare to the 17" on my Breva either for feel or handling.  So as you can see I was sorely disappointed on this "improved"? Guzzi 750 middleweight. This V7II made the MuZ 660 look superior in every way except acceleration.

I rode the Bobber on the twisties on 395 south from the rally. I really wanted to like it.. but.. it's a cruiser. Meh. Feet forward, and with the tank shape, absolutely no place to get a grip with your knees. You can sort of put your calves against the  intake covers, but it is a pretty uncomfortable feeling sitting straight up with no real way to get your weight forward.
The engine/drivetrain did feel pretty high tech.. but with no tach, it was hard to tell how hard I was running it. Soon learned to ignore that stupid flashing red light. Never did hit the rev limiter, so I assume I wasn't hurting it.
The chassis was ok, and surprisingly I didn't mind the fat front tire. It turned in pretty well. Brakes were good.
Power was down compared to the Aero engine, surprising me again. Maybe strangled with emissions? Dunno. Smooth and refined, though.  For the kind of riding I like, the Bobber was a distant third to the Aero Lario or MZ.
It would make a fine bar hopper. I fear that Guzzi has lost their way.

Here's a link for my pics from the National Rally. A big thanks to everyone who rode from all over the USA and Canada to John Day for a great Rally. Gerri & Gary Jenkins put in a HUGE amount of time and energy to make sure everyone had a great time. We had 303 signed in. Thanks again and enjoy the pics.

Thanks Steve.   :thumb:  I'm going to forward the pix to a co-worker.  She was interested in "what" happens at a non-Harley bike rally.

IIRC Gary said that there were 26 Stelvio's of 303 bikes.  High percentage of the MG's.

I know I didn't hear a single owner say, "I hate my Stelvio"...they were much-admired and commented on at the Rally...wish I were a little taller!
