Moto Guzzi Griso 1100 electrical question: ignition coil ECU error codes.

Hi,

I have a fairly basic question.

I have a !SERVICE warning light and have had the associated ECU error codes 23, and sometimes 22 after resetting the codes.

These codes relate to Vcc (22) and Gnd of coil 1.

My simple question is: is coil 1 the left hand side coil, or the right hand side coil?

Any help appreciated,

why don't you guys test it yourself, you don't need this forum for that: pull connector of one coil, start bike, and stop: what error do you get. the same with other side.

I'm guessing the ECU monitors the coil current, throws an error code if the current is out of spec.

Interesting that the left cylinder is considered front (#1), when the right cylinder is physically further "front" than the left.

thanks for the many replies. Must say I find it rather odd that the service manual does not make this clear. I found an old detailed post in the archives from another Griso 1100 owner which agrees with pauldaytona:

"Coil 1 is LEFT: Here's the update. The used bike place I got the Stelvio from found a dealer near to them (90 miles from me) that could look at it today. The mechanic plugged it into the diagnostic - it showed a left coil error. This means Coil 1 (and therefore other parts marked 1 on the ECU diagnostics should be left side of the bike - perhaps useful for others). He cleared the error through his pc.  Turned on the dash, red triangle and service light had gone out. He took it for a test ride, no problems. As a final check he looked at the HT lead to the plug, but that was fine."

I have the same error, and am hoping it is a new coil needed as I have already bought one, and can not be bothered to go to a dealership to deal with phantom ECU errors,

I had already put the new coil on the right hand side based on a 50/50 guess (with no change to the ECU errors). I will measure coil resistances etc. this time and do thinks a bit more properly.

Left is #1. The master cylinder (tee hee) in all things electrical and fuel related. The right is but a minion, a lackey, lickspittle, toady and fawning underling.

a quick update on this.

With your help on identifying the correct coil, replacement solved the ECU error 23 and 24 problems. The bike runs well on a test.

The service indicator on the warning LED triangle light have stayed on (or rather intermittently flash on every few minutes) despite all errors cleared from the ECU and service reset selected on diagnostics, and no new ECU errors.

This is very similar to a "Phantom ECU" error reported on another forum with a stelvio.

Has anyone experienced this? Is there any way to get rid of the irritating service warning or do I need to bring it to a dealership/mechanic? Could it indicate another real error or is it just an annoying bug?.

Note: the fault with coli 1 was definitely real (bike kept stalling, low power until the offending coil was replaced)

I'm having this exact problem, was the issue ever resolved?  Seems simple enough, will likely require a Guzzidiag/PC reset to clear is my guess.
