Miles per hour?
« on: July 11, 2016, 01:18:36 PM »
To any griso owners how fast are you going at 3000 rpm in sixth gear. I'm trying to lower my norgy's rpm at 70 -75 mph.
So many curves. so little time!

Seems Greasos run a 12/44 final drive with a sixth gear overdrive of something near 1 - .08 . You can do the math Mike , my head hurts reading all of the U joint/CV joint stuff

I could be wrong but I think the Breva 1100 is geared the tallest of the CARC bikes.

48 mph, 1100 Griso

P.S. is you're trying to alter this, it will require a transmission change.  All of the CARCs are the same rear drive ratio - the gearing difference is in the primary reduction in the trans.

Lower it? 4K RPM at 70-75 is almost lugging the poor thing as it is..  at least that's what my '08 does.. and that is where the sweet spot in the mpg curve is.
I suspect if you lowered it much with taller gearing you'd be adding quite a bit of torque strain to the engine bottom end unless you are planning a bunch of coast to coasters where you will need or want only minimal power at speed with stops only for fuel..   :undecided:
Or are you trying to sneak on some more top end speed?
IMHO the Norge gear ratio's are about perfect.
Smarter minds than mine may offer more realistic opinions..

I don't suppose they make a 70 or 80 series tire in the right width?
