Bought a beaded seat cover for summer from cycle crafts. Seems well put together. After a couple rides it really does allow a lot of air flow between the seat and your bottom. The last few days have been 90+ Fahrenheit and the beaded seat cover is an inexpensive and effective piece of kit for maintaining a comfortable ride. My last ride was about 3 hours, just a mixed meandering around town, on and off the freeway, and on side streets. For the money, about 20 dollars, it's a real bargain.

Cycle Crafts version is made with relatively small wooden beads. In fact, I hardly noticed much difference initially. But once moving, I felt a cooling affect over time.

I'm a fan of the Persian taxi seat as well! It certainly does help keep temps down in the nether regions!

I have a bony butt, and I find that after 150 miles or so it does start to get a bit uncomfortable, but then again so does the seat without beads.

I have a beaded seat and it is really good for both airflow and a quick mini butt massage by moving around on the beads.
Nice addition to my kit.

Norm , met a woman from San Diego in the grocery store last night . She was complaining about the avocados available in the store to one of the checkers . "These don't look like the avocados we had in SD." She was berating the poor checker , I eased between them , and said , "Mam , you aren't in San Diego anymore". She seemed genuinely surprised by that fact

I had guests in my restaurant once. They were complaining that the fruit wasn't as good as it was "back home". Well, folks... you're from Southern California, and you've traveled to the middle of the Canadian Prairies... in February. No shit, the fruit isn't the same as back home.

Next episode of "Who knew?!"... it's colder here in the winter, too.

Since we are already derailed

I was partners in a catfish restaurant for years . Most of the fish ordered was in steak form , in other words 3/4" thick cuts down the length of the body . We were somewhat famous for our catfish steaks . A couple from CA came in with some relatives that lived just up the road and the group ordered catfish steaks for 4 . Two of my servers came back to the kitchen and asked me to make an appearance at their table , seems the CA folks were expecting something that looked more like "steak"

I run a bead rider cover as well and in the summer it sure does keep some air flow going around the boys. Also when it rains the water doesn't pool between your legs as it drains around the beads. Even on morning when the seat is wet from being left out over night you sit above the water table.

I have also found beaded seat covers are not magic and allow you to ride pain free for 1000 mile days. They do however allow you to ride longer with less discomfort.

We pulled into Cody, WY after leaving from the SD National. The campground in town had room. Pitch my tent then the friends say "How about Chinese food for dinner?" I had a WDF moment.

Turn out there was 3 Chinese restaurants in town.

I've been thinking of these covers as temps here in Chicgo have been 90+ quite a bit lately - do they harm the seat at all? The Jackal came with a Corbin, pretty comfy but plenty sweaty

Another vote for the Bead Rider. I just put one on my off-brand new touring bike (the shed partner now of the Russell Day-Long-equipped Stelvio) and rode 2000 miles in the heat, and it performs well enough that I will probably not be investing in a Russell for this bike, although I was sure I would.

I tried sheepskin, lambskin, and AirHawks but this beaded seat cover does the job for me. I suspect the air circulation, and the constant "movement" of the pressure points, does the trick.

It goes well with the little golden crown on the windshield and the kebab wrappers in the tail bag.

Do you roll around?

What about when you do a "dirt bike" low speed - high lean turn?

The beads are very stable; they don't roll or move at all. When you sit on it, you can't feel that it's "beads" at all - just feels like a cooler, comfortable seat ...

I have a Day-Long custom seat on my Bassa - do I purchase a sheet of bead material and mod it to fit?
