Yes, I heard about this early this morning. John "bird" McDonough was a staple for many years at most of the Guzzi rallies I attend. A kind, unassuming guy who surely enjoyed his beer. He spoke often about his family. In particular, his son Seth. He'll be missed!

Spent many an hour with John at rallies just kicked back and talking.   He loved to ride and loved to hang out with people, and loved to talk and listen, which is why you'd see him at every Eastern rally ....

RIP John.

"A man ends up with the face he deserves." Judging by Mr McDonough's countenance , that still holds to be true . Well done John , RIP .

1982, My first ever Moto Guzzi Rally, Emmaus Pa. I fell in with Bird & a couple of his riding buddies. We proceeded to PARTY big time. I awoke in my little blue pup-tent (w/the hommade clear plastic rain fly) & panicked because I didn't know where I was. Then as foggy details came back, panicked again until I stuck my head out of the flap & saw my Ambassador sitting there on its center stand. They were "The Men From Mars" & I was "The Wildman". We renewed the friendship at Guzzi rallies for the next 30+ years. Bird will be missed.

Sounds like John was quite a partier. What caused his demise?

Cancer, according to the obit.   His health was never robust, from what I could tell, but it never kept him off the road.

That's too bad.  Life isn't fair some times.  Least he enjoyed hisself while he lived and produced 5? sons.  Hope his family can survive OK.

John was all about his kids and his kids were all about him. I don't think John ever met a person he did not like. He was kind of the Labrador Retriever of the Guzzi world. RIP.  :thumb:

That's a great analogy.   He was always positive and always on about his kids.

If he'd had a tail, it would have been wagging all the time .....

No, he was tall and skinny. I think that is how he got the nickname Bird. I'm pretty certain he did not ever post here.
