Gear Oil (uh, oh...)

Every/Anyone,

Will this stuff work as my gear oil for my first service?

The GL-5 and MT-1 API ratings indicate that it's the highest rated stuff available these days, but whether it is suitable for your gearbox depends on what gearbox you intend to put it in.  For 6-sp V7's, it is the specified SAE 75W-90 viscosity, but for the 5-sp V7's, you should use 85W-90 instead.

So far, I've been very happy with Motorex 10W60 for the engine, seems to do well. I've changed the trans fluid once, I believe I used Bel Ray 85W90 Hypoid, and didn't notice much difference in noise or feel, but it does seem to warm up quicker than the stock fluid and make the initial 1st - 2nd shift smoother in less time. I will be changing the final drive fluid for the first time at my next service, and I'm most curious about this fluid. I gather from most of what I've read that Moly additives aren't important like they used to be on older Guzzi? Input on this is most welcome. And I've never changed my fork oil yet, but I think it's time for a refresh. Anyone experiment with difference weights to see how it feels?

Yak Fat.
Just don't boil the yak to quick or you'll ruin the toxic polypeptides that are crucial to valve tip life.

Oh. I just thought that in between the threads on NGC, steel-milled oats, and completely motorcycle-unrelated crap that is so fervently responded to, someone who wants to talk about their Guzzi might feel like kindly sharing some know-how on fluids for the Guzzi on the Guzzi forum. Older threads can be greatly helpful, but information can become outdated. New brands or methods can be introduced. New things can be tried. Important tidbits can be mentioned that might save someone a lot of trouble if they haven't dug through the archives and found the most recent thread. Kinda thought that was the point of this community. Sorry I asked  :Beating_A_Dead_Hors e_by_liviu

Flip to the back of your owners manual and then go to amazon and order that stuff.
That's what I do. Well, if I can't wrangle a yak into the cauldron.
