product review: Aerostich WindStopper
« on: September 12, 2016, 08:46:39 AM »
I've used this thing all year--on several long trips--and have come away pretty impressed.  I wear it under the Roadcrafter suit, and find it's really effective at cutting the chill--down to around 45 degrees F.  I think I can forgo the electric vest for trips where I know it won't be below that. It packs small and seemingly adds no bulk when you wear it (as the vest does)--you hardly notice it.  And, when things warm up?  It's not bad just keeping it on.

As with most articles with the Aerostich name, it isn't cheap; but, it should never wear out; it's well made.

I picked up a similar product while in Duluth about five years ago, but I don't think they make it anymore. It's supposed to be a windbreaker with a thin fleece like lining, zippered vents under the arms. I normally wear it as a light weight jacket off the bike. With just a few layers, as long as the wind was not blowing I was good to about ten below. Down by Lake Superior two years ago I cried uncle and got a winter jacket with a hood. My only nit-pik, I'd prefer a cotton cuff like on my old leather jacket to the taped edging they use.

In use, I tend to prefer jacket styles vs. pull overs. Next time I'm in the Aerostich I'll have to check out this new one.

Agreed with the review...I've got a black and green one from Aerostitch...it makes a very effective wind barrier even under a mesh jacket...excellent for adding warmth in a lightweight way.

Gosh, something else I'll need to buy. Thanks for the review Daniel!   :thumb:
I did a 1,600 mile trip with my Roadcrafter D3 suit and am very happy with it.  It was my second trip with it and find it vents real well at 80 degrees and was in a hard rain storm and only leaked where I did not properly fasten the neck in the front properly.  I wore a T-shirt and shorts under it on hot days.  My electric Gerbing jacket worked great over the T-shirt on 50 degree morning until it warmed up mid morning.
