NE AR to MoKan to Seattle

Time for my Fall trip. Have been on my childhood farm for the past week visiting my Dad. Tomorrow, we head to MoKan, then on to Seattle. Hope to spend some time in Manitiou Springs CO and ride up Pikes Peak. Weather permitting. Will post as we go.

First day started out good. 200 miles of fun and sun through the Oars up to Springfield MO. Then the sky opened and it poured from there to Sedalia MO. About 100 miles. No kind of rain gear was going to keep us dry. It was dangerous to even be on the road. So we stopped short of MoKan and got a motel . The motel dryers are working overtime.
Tomorrow, I have to get Cookie to the K.C. airport by 11 am and then it is onward to MoKan for me.

MoKan  was good. A small turnout so more food for me! A good band, the weather was good for the 20 hours that I was there, and the beer wagon did not disappoint.
Today, I rode across  Kansas. Ah, Kansas. What can you say about Kansas?
I entered her from her NorthEast corner, rode her hard for 7 hours and pulled out of her SouthWest corner, overheated, exhausted, and out of breath.
I am glad she is behind me.
Am settled in in Lamar, CO.
Tomorrow, Dakota Hot Springs and then north to Manitou Springs.

Today, I rode up Pikes Peak. A bit anticlimatic. Quiet warm at the top. 50°. A very good road surface. I was a bit light-headed when I first arrived, but soon animated. Worth the 12$ for sure.

Then I rode to Cripple Creek, which was a huge letdown. Casino Hell. 5 miles up the road was Victor, which was what I had hoped Cripple Creek would be. The aspens  (?) were beautiful at that elevation. Super bright oranges and yellows.

Judi makes me ride up Mt. Evans every time we get to Colorado. It's free, much higher elevation and not so crowded.
I agree with your views on Kansas. Did west Kansas heading east one time at 107°F. Nasty.

Today was a good day turned sour. Rode 500 high quality miles from Manitou  Springs to Thermopolis WY.
The last 100 were pretty windy, so I was feeling a bit punchy.
I checked into my motel then wandered down the street to a restaraunt  where I was refused service because I was 'obviously intoxicated'.
I hadn't had a drop to drink but was unsteady on my feet from my long day. The restaraunt staff just saw a wobbly hippie and made biased assumptions.
I didn't argue because that is what an intoxicated person would do and the last thing I want is to talk to the sheriff. Did not want to escalate the situation.
I ended up eating my supper out of a gas station.
It has left a bad taste in my mouth and I think tomorrow I will point the bike toward Seattle. Can be home for supper Friday night.

 Well Bill , you are kind of intimidating  Don't know what their problem is , we feed several drunk Guzzi riders at camp outs , never been an issue , except for that one time that a certain guy from Kansas kept asking for 4ths

Home, again. Home, again. Jiggedy  Jig!
The last 1000 miles from Thermopolis were pretty chilly, mostly in the high 40s and low 50s. Spitting rain all day yesterday for 600 miles. Not much but enough to keep me off of Beartooth Pass. Honestly though, the only reason NOT to rave about WY120 and MT78 is because Beartooth is next door.
Today was also chilly from Kellogg ID to Seattle. Mostly dry except for 20 miles either side of Snoqualmie Pass. 45° and pouring.
From Arkansas to Seattle was 2828 miles without a problem one. Since I left last April, it has been 6174 miles with only a leaky head cover gasket.
Sweet Leaf now has 62k on the clock and has been mostly trouble free. Only a fuel level sensor and an oil pressure sensor.

It's all good. Covered some new ground. Covered some old ground. Today it gets the first bubble bath in 6000 miles! The Michelin Road 4s look like they are ready to go again.
