Fall riding tip for sun glare...

As the sun sinks...it blows your eyeballs out at times and you can't see......it, or anything looking into the sun.

George Patenaude, (forgive my spelling George) was a long timer in the Conn area. I believe he bought a new model from loops to EV for years from Fred Marsh. I'd see him sometime late spring, and he'd be off soon to Alaska. Pretty soon, it kinda turned into the opposite. He'd be at Marcus Dairy because he was on a trip from Alaska. I'd love to just listen to his stories, he had a gift to delivery...Anyway.. ..

Put a strip of black tape along the bottom of your face shield. With the shield positioned open, you can use the tape as a brim to look directly into the sun glare...adjust shield up or down, tip your head up or down. Works.

I wear a Shoei NeoTec helmet with an internal sun shade that deploys by an external slide lever.  When I ride into a low-in-the-sky sun, I position the sun shade part way down, so that it shades the sun but not my eyes.  Works pretty well.

Your suggestion is a good one.

I bought a roll of auto window tinting, and put it at the top, bottom, and sides of my already dark visor. The primary view zone remains open, and all else has extra darkness.

Done it many times.  Also, you can run a strip of tape along the top of the shield if you don't wanna have to raise it.

I use a product made for this. Its a dark translucent strip that I put at the top of the face shield. Acts like a snap on visor used on open face helmets. You canget opaque also but the translucent ones allow you to see traffic lights through the strip.

Good tip but alas I use a 1/2 helmet. 

I recommend a visor, like motorcycle cops use. I find mine more valuable than a face shield, so I do without. Extremely natural way to dodge the sun -- doesn't require any thought.

  Close your eyes when riding west in the afternoon.  You will be right in there among all the soccer moms in Volvos doing the same thing.  Or take a lengthy dinner break until it is no longer a problem.

I put a sun visor on my 1/2 helmet, held on with zip ties, not very classy but it works great.

I vote for dinner.  I pull off and eat, nap, take in a scene, whatever during that hour if I can't change direction.  It's a policy with my car, too.  I don't believe there is any good to come from riding into direct sunrise or sunset, and no place I need to be badly enough to risk eye damage or a wreck.  Everything about it is bad.  If you COULD dim it down to the point of it not damaging your eyes -- which you can't, you still would have no downrange vision, and cutting out 95% of the available light with layers of layers in front of your eyes isn't helping that.  Slowing down to a safe speed doesn't help because the guy behind you can't see either, and you can bet HE'S not slowing down.  The deer and potholes could care less about your vision issues, and neither do normal road hazards like curves, signs, and abrupt shoulders.  With the deck that stacked, I choose not to play.
