V7 Sport rim on a Griso hub?
« on: September 26, 2016, 08:57:27 PM »
I'm curious about adapting an USD front fork from a wire wheel Griso onto a V7 Sport rim.  Do they have the same number of spokes and a similar lacing pattern?

Sorry Mark? What are you actually wanting to do? Put a more modern fork on an older Tonti? Use a late model Griso wheel on an earlier bike? Can you clarify a bit? What is your objective?

I want to retro-mod my V7 Sport (it's no longer stock) with a Griso USD fork and still keep the V7 Sport rim.  I'd also like to get the Griso's radially mounted calipers with whatever newer rotors I can use.

Even if I have to re-align the nipple holes in the rim for the smaller diameter hub than the original 4LS drum (long since sold off).

Rather than a Griso front end I'd try the wreckers for a set off something like a GSXR or similar. Whatever way you approach it it won't be a straight bolt on and my guess is you'll need new yokes.

Like anything it's doable but it will require a lot of farting about.

How about just fitting decent internals to a later *conventional* fork?

Yea, Gixxer stuff is out there from racers that update to racer specs, but I like the looks of the Griso front end and having "Guzzi" (even if they are only Marzocchi - might upgrade them, too), so at this point we're debating what I want to do to my bike and I have my own perverted standards.

As for yokes, I have a machinist locally that has done them for Confederate.  So we adjust some parameters for the CNC if necessary.

So, back to the number of spokes, etc?

Found the first challenge:  The Griso has 40 spokes, the 850T3 police (I have a single 850T hub and caliper) has 36.   Hmmmm.

Convert has 40 and it's the same wheel as the T3.

When I did the wheels on my Norge, I just got the rims from Germany, they're Behr like they outa' be. BTW, just re aligning the holes to achieve the new spoke angle won't work all that well, ' cos the nipple won't be seated flat on the inside of the rim. Like Pete, I'm a fraction hazy on what you're up to but good on you for messing about, it's a beaut way to learn, ( sometimes painfully ). If you source the new rim you can bore your own holes, but if you're running sealed nipples and tubeless tyres, the holes have to be very accurate for the o rings to seal, but it can be done. I left my Norge in Felixstowe in UK with 43 psi and it read 40psi 2 months later in Australia, (yes I couldn't believe it either).

Or just get a front end off a Griso that's been Liberace'd and graft the appropriate races in.
