Breva dash issues?

Looking at a nice Breva up here in the northeast, seems like a pretty solid bike except for moisture in the dash causing issues. Read through alot of previous posts about this but only found repairs to the board or replacement, ouch 800 bucks. Did anyone find a way to weatherproof the board?  Also have a call into some very savvy electronics people in the military to see what they recommend. If I get some answers I will post it. Other than finding a replacement, Carmo Electronics is where you can send the dash to be checked/repaired if needed.

Breva dash issues were talked about a few years ago, and one fellow had a repair posted over on Guzzitech.
You might be able to dreg it up.  I recall it wasn't easy.

I'd search, but the owner banned me (really).

Results have been mixed.

Check for Griso dash repair as I think that was the subject.

I believe the only real stopping point is the LCD screen, nobody that I've heard of has been able to find a replacement LCD so if that takes a dump you are sort of hosed.

Yep!  I sent my 1200 Sport dash to Carmo, and they notified me that it was not repairable.  Problem .... the LCD panel on my dash quit working.  Everything else on my dash worked .... just not the LCD panel.  The good news is ... I got over 60,000 miles on the dash before the LCD failed.  YMMV

I applied a "conformal coating" plastic waterproofing material to the board and also installed a breather with replaceable desiccant. Based on my subsequent experience, I'm not real happy with the breather since it requires fairly frequent replacement or recharging of the desiccant. The conformal coating is probably more likely to be effective. I think the time to work on waterproofing is before the problem starts or becomes severe. If the bike you're looking at has serious problems you should negotiate the price with that possible $800 replacement part as part of the discussion.

By the way, ask the current owner if the high beam four-way flasher indicator in the dash is giving him problems. This is a symptom of water damage at the lower left edge of the board, where it collects while the bike is on the side stand. I don't know of any bikes that have recovered from that symptom, though Doppelganger may have more to say on that. On my 1200 Sport it wasn't the high beam indicator but rather the right turn signal that gave me issues. At least I think it was the right.
One of the signals would blink fast like a bulb was out.  This was on 2 separate dashes.

The Griso probably has things in a bit of a different place than the Breva dashes.

To clarify, I'm talking about high-beam four-way flasher indicator problems associated with a particular damage location on Breva dashes, not Grisos. The 1200 Sport has a version of the Breva dash, IIRC.

I don't know of any Griso symptoms that I can link to damage on particular parts of its PCB.

Do you know what part of the PCB on your 1200 Sport dashes was physically damaged by corrosion?

Used to have regular 88888 problems, that would go away at it dried out from riding in dry weather. Now the bike is in a garage year round....no problem's.

I have no idea. I sent mine to Carmo, they found the water damage and fixed it up before waterproofing it.
I don't remember how long ago that was but it has been fine ever since, and yes I ride in the rain when the desert gets some.

Thanks guys, That answers my question. I have seen some boards that seem to have been laquered or coated. Are the Guzzi boards treated at all? The cell phone repair shop is a good idea.  If I get the bike the dash will be the first fix.

No, not treated at all, judging by my probes with a multimeter. User Techrat-something on another board, a genuine electronic whiz I cited before, asserted the same thing.

He also mentioned, FWIW, that the ECU of the Aprilia SR50 that he was working on WAS coated, so maybe our ECU's are too, but I never checked. (The Aprilia uses a simpler version of the Griso dash.) I'd be interested in learning whether they are.
