Doesn't work well in what way?Hard to put on,hard to put off.Doesn't go up by spring?

It's a nice idea, but you're asking too much.  You need the resistance to be high enough to hold the center stand up and not sag or ratchet down on an impact of fault condition (when you hit pot holes), but you want resistance to be low enough to allow the springs to fold it up when you roll off.  Maybe a compromise would work.  Easy enough to fold up, but some kind of keeper latch to hold it up until you unlatch and set the bike back on the center stand.

Well no.The springs are the same. When the stand goes over center the springs pull on either the up or down stop.I did not invent this idea.

Yes,  you're right.  It's what I think the MEs call toggling.  But I was thinking past that point you still need enough resistance + spring force.  My Cali II side stand toggles with a whack.  Neither my Cali II nor Norge center stands will stay folded up without enough friction in the pivot.
