87 LeMans IV side stand

The side stand on the 87 LeMans almost points straight down, not out to the side. What sort of a fix is there for this? I'm worried the bike will easily fall over depending on this flimsy thing.

And what's the trick on the center stand? The grab handle is waaaaaaay back there at the back of the bike, and so is the center stand tab. That tab IS for leverage, besides lowering, right? So what's the trick getting the bike on the stand?

Yep.

You can get the ugly police stand and weld brackets to the frame for it (but would also be the strongest part on your bike :)  ).

You can do what I did.  Take the stand apart.  Weld on a longer leg.  Bend the bracket to get the lean angle you want, then weld a reinforcing tab to the bracket so it won't bend any further.

Or, there is the "Brown" stand.  Don't know where to get them but they seem to work.

The centerstand goes right down if you put your ball of foot onto the back of curved stand and hold it down while lifting and pulling back. Doing the tab does not work.
