Time to 'retire'

Yep .... I didn't think I'd get any miles on the GS or Sport 1200 after I finally got out of the hospital and rehab.  I tried to take the GS out for a run 5 days after leaving rehab, and immediately decided that it was a bad idea.  That was first part of July.  So I turned around and headed for the barn.  But about a month later, another attempt, and that time it went much better. 

One short ride added to another short ride, etc, etc ended up with me adding 2000 more miles to where I normally replace the Metzeler Tourances, somewhere around 7000 miles, maybe a bit less.

With 9k on them, front and rear just hit the wearbars.  And the front end is rather squirrelly.
So, this late in the year, I stopped by the small indy shop that does my tires, and ordered a set of new, improved Tourances.  They'll be on the bike Thur afternoon or Fri morning, just in time to park the bike for the winter. 

With a little luck, Fri is supposed to be beautiful before it all falls apart, so maybe it'll be nice to ride on new rubber before winter takes over.

Note:  I put more miles on the GS than the 1200 Sport in 2016AH (after hospital), but only because the GS is or feels substantially lighter.  But the Guzzi hasn't been neglected, and got her own set of new shoes a few weeks before surgery, She's ready for next year already.

Note2:  Perry, one of the fellows at the indy shop, has been drag racing motorcycles since he was 19 .... he's now in his mid-40's.  Recently, when he was racing at Norwalk, Ohio, the bike's rear tire hit something slick on the track and stepped out on him, resulting in a get-off at 165mph.  Luckily, the only bodily damage Perry incurred was 2 broken ribs.  The bike (the one in the following video) is obviously a mess.  When it slammed the retaining wall, the headstock was torn from the frame.  Here's the bike and Perry at a previous bike show in Cleveland.

Dusty, I didn't say 20,000!  Just 2,000.  Add another 500 or so that I ran up on the 1200 Sport.  Not my typical summer, but considering I was questioning whether or not I'd ever be able to throw a leg over a bike again, I am thankful for the miles I was able to ride.

Yes sir!  That's what I'm doing!  Good to hear  you two wheeled it to the personal trainer, Chuck.  The Lario, with the aero engine, had to be a good ride.

You are a kindred spirit, Bob. I had a knee replacement 11 weeks ago, but I've been riding for at least 5 weeks on all three of our bikes (even my rearset-equipped Bonneville). It was a little painful at first, but I actually think getting out in the breeze helped me heal up quicker. It will be a sad day indeed, when I can no longer throw a leg over a motorbike. I avoid even thinking about it.

Yes, we will all eventually get to that sad decision point in our lives...  I am thinking I will transition to 3-wheelers...like a TriKing or a European-style sidecar set-up...but not a trike.

Just ANYTHING to keep of the couch and have something for overnight trips and stay "IN THE WIND!!"

JJ, Any idea how expensive a TriKing kt would be?  And what the average build time would be?  I really think they're a neat looking vehicle, and am curious if you've gathered cost and time to build info.

There have been a couple of them built by listers. Starting a separate thread would be more likely to get your answer..
