Recommend me a better fuel supply system
« on: February 11, 2017, 03:54:28 PM »
Ok, so this afternoon I'm installing my new crank position sensor in hopes of getting my 13 V7 Stone back in service.  Despite exercising great care, I manage to break the T-connector at the back of the fuel tank, the male end that fits into the female connector with the 2 green release tabs.

Not a happy camper.   Per parts fische, this is the T connector at the end of the "fuel pipe," Guzzi P/N B063034.

I've had trouble before disconnecting these crappy plastic fuel connectors.  And have had them leak.

So I don't want to replace with cheapo OEM stuff.

Can somebody recommend me the connectors, hose, fuel line, clamps and any other parts needed to do this right? Like high quality, brass connectors that really do disconnect easily without breaking?   Seems like I'd also need some extra length of fuel hose so that removing and replacing the tank isn't such a fiddly nightmare.   Also, the ends of the fuel lines at the 2 injectors, and at the T connector, do not have any external clamps.  Seems like the OEM system is some kind of heat shrunk connector.  How do I replace that?

There is also a separate short hose from this broken T connector to another fitting at the fuel pump directly outside the tank.  That hose mates to what appears to be another chintzy male red connector coming off the fuel pump assembly.  Should I upgrade that short line as well?

Anyway---now that I've broken it and am motivated to fix it, what should I get, and how should I proceed, to improve the OEM set-up and make this friendly to the home mechanic?

I recall someone did replace some of the fitting with brass, as you suggested, but it was for the "old" pre-2013 bike, so I'm not sure how much of it applies.

I think it was posted on GuzziTech, but I'm banned from them so I can't look it up.  Let me check to see if I saved the thread on my computer or something.

Not a help with the current dilemma, but there's a reason I disconnect it at the fuel line connector down by the injectors.

Your local Napa auto should have FI fittings , tubing and connectors although you'll need to get the special tool used to press them together. I saw a kit complete with all that is needed but it wasn't cheap. I think it was around 140 dollars iirc. I was very tempted to purchase one to rid my griso of the miserable pos. disconnect. I have heard of people using heat to soften the tubing and getting by without the tool ,but a mechanic there I spoke with said you definitely want the tool. Found this one with a quick on line search, good luck

Sorry SS, looks like this kit is only the box, thought it was too cheap, anyway here's what it looked like accept it was full of connectors and the tool ect. Any Auto parts place should have one.

In short, my posts on Guzzitech (GT) were deleted by admin for talking about a competing vendor in Italy.  Todd doesn't allow mentioning competing products on GT.  I complained about it here, and got admonished + immediately banned on GT.

Small world, huh?

FWIW, the two piece connector B063034 and B063033 have been superceded by 2B000970, a one piece fuel line, but still with the same "QD" at the fuel pump end, and welded ends on the T junction. Later V7s & V7IIs used this part. Guzzi mechanics I've spoken to have confirmed that that male part on the T junction that you broke is extremely fragile. As I also found out, to my dismay. The new part appears to be more robust - but still has the awkward QD end. I'm getting better at it, with all the practice, but it's still painful. Good luck in getting the bits to fix it properly - Let us know what you end up with.

The irony was that I was so careful and paranoid when trying to disconnect it.  It came off pretty easy.   So I thought "That's not so bad, guess I've got the hang of it now."   It wasn't until I was trying to put it back together that I realized it had snapped apart.

Hey Smith, Here is the link to better quick connectors, as far as the rest of the hardware your looking for, your local ace or true value carries a good supply of brass fittings. Oetiker is the way to go for clamping ...do it once and forget it. E Bay sellers have kits to do this. Hope this helps.
