If this has been posted let me know, I pull it.  Looks like a totally electrical lighter.  Recharge thru the USB port.  Any clues out there as to how the internals would work.  Looks like a possible buy for me but it seems that matches would last longer.

Looks like a solution in search of a problem. Why not just take a Bic butane lighter?

Reminds me of the Americans developing a "space pen" for use in orbit while the Russians just used pencils.

However, as a miniature taser it does have some appeal!

I like it.  No fuel to worry about.  Probably completely wind and rain proof.  Charge and go.

Space pen vs pencil.  You do remember that NASA nixed the pencil because of carbon particles getting into electronics.  Russians of course did not worry about carbon particles cause they were still using tubes and relays.

I can see some real uses for that thing.

Our bush out here is often damp. I used to carry a small light metal object about the length of a spoon which had a piece of asbestos rope at the end of it, and a small bottle of meths. Soak the rope bit in meths and light, it was a real boon to getting damp wood burning. The problem was you had to keep the matches dry. Something like that I could see being a real useful bit of kit.

That's not a good idea, as the butane will leak out.
I do a lot of backpacking/hiking/camping. If you want to keep a bic in your pocket/pack put it in an old pill container.
Use the containers to store cotton balls slathered in petroleum jelly or Purell (not cheap substitutes) Both will come in handy if you need to start a fire.

That's not a good idea, as the butane will leak out.

Even if the butane leaks out you still have flint and steel.
That was an "oh, duh" about a month after it happened to me.

Well, I find myself being schooled on several points. Always a good thing. And I'll stop using the pencil vs. pen in space story.

I'm still not inclined to trust my life to a usb port, but I'll be more critical of my "old reliables" now.

Let's look forward to reviews of this new device in adverse conditions. Does it light in a wind, when the wood is damp, at high elevation? No reviews at all on the site.

I thought butane gas was for higher altitudes than propane.

It may be but I've also had several butane lighters fail to ignite at higher alt.  I believe it is the air-gas ratio set at the factory since some of the adjustable ones I can get to light.  The most trouble I had was with the 'torches'.  Even the ones I bought made for 'high altitude' would not work after a few cycles.  On those it is 'soot' from being too 'rich'.  I had one cleaned and it worked ok a few times.

FWIW, nothing lights wet wood.  It has to be heated enough to dry out, then enough heat to reach flame temp.  That doesn't change no matter what you use to light it.  You can cheat and dowse the wet wood with fuel, like kerosene, but, the process is still the same.

Sorry fellas, but the whole Nasa space pen/Soviet pencils never happened!  Nasa didn't spend any money developing a pen, Fisher Pens did on their own, Nasa did buy some at a modest price.  The Soviets also used pens in space, long before they were doing any partnerships with Nasa.   Here a quick read on the truth if your interested,

Looks like a great solution for the smoker but you can do much more with a 9 volt battery and steel wool. When I was in the scouts you could get a blaze going in most any condition with these two items and a bag of fritos. Cheap too. Not to mention you can snack on the remaining corn chips.
