Nothing wrong with the Fiat 600 that a Moto Guzzi V-Twin can't fix

I've watched the Battle of the LeMons close to home (Nelson Ledges Race Track) and close to Virginia at Summit Point (in W Va.) There's some really strange machinery running around the track at these events.  I've got slideshow on Photobucket if it will cooperate and let me open it.  (It didn't cooperate) .... here's two pics of a Wartburg.  At Summit Point it showed up with an engine in the rear ..... recall that it was a Subaru flat four .....  Previously, at Nelson Ledges, it ran the original 3 cylinder/2 stroke engine front mounted as from the factory.

I got to flag and work pit out on a 24-hour race at our local track when the Chump Car (essentially same thing as LeMons) series came through...had a blast!! 

One of the spectators donated his daily-driver transmission so one team could finish the race...after the checkers, they re-installed the tranny back into the guys truck!!

The story about Moto Guzzi working with Fiat to put the motorcycle v-twin into a Fiat car is a myth. Greg Field quotes Guzzi engineers and shows photos of the actual Fiat prototype --a  different engine altogether -- to disprove it. (In his book, Guzzi Big Twins.)

Here is a 2011 interview of Enrico Cantoni in which he explains his role in developing a Guzzi engine for the Fiat Cinquecento.  If I recall correctly, Giulio Carcano's personal Fiat had the engine installed.  Everything I've read indicates it was a late '50s project that Guzzi initiated and tried to sell to Fiat unsuccessfully, not a joint venture, and the Vee twin motorcycle engine came later.

I believe the starter motors of the `70 to `80 big block motors are from Fiat car motors.

That's right. The motorcycle engine and the Fiat project engine were two different things. The article posted at the top of this thread says different.
