MOTO GUZZI V7 SPORT , Turn signals and petcock Questions
« on: February 14, 2017, 04:14:42 PM »
Hi All ,

Like the subject says i have questions regarding the V7 sport.

Did it come with turn signals ? or were they option ?

What was the brand of turn signals on the v7 sport for the USA market ? ( Lucas ? )

Regarding the electric petcock , any reason why it should be swapt with a regular manual petcock ?

Thanks
Marco

Mine came with Lucas turn signals, if I remember right. Built in mid '72.

The electric petcock worked fine during my time with the bike

Most of the US V7 Sports came with Lucas (plastic chromed shell). Some in Italy, if not most, came with Aprillia (chromed cast metal shell). Replica Lucas are still available I think.

In Italy turn signals became standard years after the V7 Sport was released, and may not have been legal on motorcycles till after the mid seventies. Then again, Marco, you probably already knew that. Lucas turn signals can be had OEM from Brit bike suppliers, EBay , as well as aftermarket. I have both and the original Brit ones seem of better quality As for Aprilia ones, some came with T/s and T3's but nowadays they are getting pricy. The earlier ones seem to be better quality than the later ones

Thanks for the feedback
I have this v7 sport 1973 that has Lucas turn signals and I wanted to know if they were stock or something the po had to the bike.
Also the po put a manual petcock instead of the electric valve but I found the electric petcock with wiring etc on the tool box . Because I am willing to keep the bike as stock as possible I wanted to know if It was safe to put the electric petcock back on.

Another question is how do you tell original mufflers from re pop
Thanks
Marco

The electric petcock is  very cool, and if it works even more so. As long as it cannot cause a electric parasitic drain if it failed, or it leaks, then I wouldn't worry. If you have a right side manual tap and a 4 way fuel feed hose you will manage to get home even if the electric tap were to quit. OTOH, manual petcocks are  simpler and reliable .
