7-37 'Sidecar' Ring & Pinion Gear Set
« on: February 24, 2017, 10:52:14 AM »
Is anyone running the 7-37 (instead of the 7-33) gear set on just a regular V1000 Tonti setup (without the sidecar)?

Just wondering how that works out. I ride mainly 2-up, and I'm not too keen on riding on the highways anymore. Through town, short distances is my game I suppose. I notice that the 7-33 though works well, sometimes I wish it were just a tad shorter on stop and go especially 2-up. I run 120/90-18 tires on the rear, which might be making things a little heavier.

Anyway, just considering this as a little hot-rod mod just for fun. Based in my needs, what do you think?

Thanks.

I'm running a used set I got from Charlie at Antietam Cycle on my Bassa with a heavy sidecar. I like it except I would like a lower first gear and a taller fifth. I still run too fast on the secondary roads though, I use fifth gear a lot more and mostly drive by the tach, keeping the revs at > 4K generally, which is what I did with the 7/33's. I have to watch my speed so the ratio is not too low. I don't have to downshift to 4th running 80 on the freeway to pull a long hill. Except for the too tall first the 7/33's would be ok if I had more engine and it's no slouch with Mike Rich cylinder heads, cam and Sport I throttle bodies. It sounds like you run a lot at the max rated weight and so I think it would be to your liking. That part about the max rated weight was ment as humor, a lot of Guzzis are run at way over that, me included

Great reply, thank you. I'm more tempted now to make this mod. I'll have to keep an eye out for a good used set. The good thing is that this mod is easily reversible if/when I get sick of it.

Thanks again.
