I love getting packages from Italy!
« on: March 24, 2017, 09:27:19 AM »
I got home from work yesterday and I had 2 packages from Italy waiting on me. From Carpimoto, I had ordered Matris fork cartridge kits for my Shiver and my son's SV. Even with (very reasonable) shipping, I still saved about $500 from what they would have cost me in the USA. Carpimoto has very good prices and quick service. The exchange rate has been very good for the US dollar though the Euro has been getting stronger against the dollar the last few weeks. The parts arrived about 3 weeks after the order was placed. Not bad since they had to set up the cartridges for our weights and riding styles.

I was one click away from buying some Matris suspension components for my V7II Stone from a well-known and respected USA source when I discovered that I could save about $800 by getting them instead from Carpimoto.  Shipping on everything was only 18 Euros and the package arrived in about 2.5 weeks.  The only hassle was that the shipper, DHL, applied the wrong customs code and I was charged a 10% import duty, but after some correspondence, it was refunded.  Now I'm seriously tempted to get some Agostini mufflers direct from Italy, at a savings of about $350 over buying from a USA source.

I guess whether this is a good thing might depend on whether you think these US suppliers (Guzzitech, AF1, etc) are performing a useful service or not.  If they are then, arguably, they deserve our support.

I totally agree, and I do feel somewhat guilty about not buying from the US dealer, especially because he was very free with helpful advice.  But, the Italian dealer was also very helpful in guiding me to select the right components for my bike, my kind of riding, and my weight.  If the price difference were only a couple of hundred dollars, I probably would have gone with the US seller, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend $800 more to buy locally (thrifty Guzzi owner content).  I do hope to eventually make amends by buying something from the US dealer that only he offers.

I agree and have made purchases from both. However, my $1200 from Carpimoto would have been a $1700+ NON-purchase from the USA. I sold a nice Colt revolver that covered the cost of the parts from Italy.
