Ride Report from Down Under ...
« on: March 21, 2017, 07:36:53 PM »
Been 24 hours since Ride Reports were requested, and we've not seen ANY!!

So here's a short one from Down Under The Mason-Dixon line ....

So, a nice day today, Fay and I had plenty of work to do around here, spring being here and all, so did we buckle down and do it?   What, with Ride Reports in demand on WG (so we hear)?

Do it we did NOT.   We had lunch, followed by a cup of tea, then, rather than get to work, we got our gear on, hopped on the Stelvio, and just “headed out” in Chuck Berry mode.

Spring has not really sprung here yet, the woods are still bare …

We rode past the spot where Central Baptist Church was knocked flat by the F3 tornado last February.   The congregation, although only about 25 strong, is following Chumbawumba’s “Tubthumping” theme and won’t stay down, the new church is up and on it’s way …

We rode to my old school deep in the Prince Edward County woods … been there 241 years and still going strong.   I lived two years in the room behind the very middle window of the third floor … the showers were in the basement of Venable Hall, through a mile of unheated halls.   Not like that now though.

And I lived for two years in this 200 year old house, top right room, very nice.   I had a great time at college.

Just a great place.

Bought a school tie and a couple of nice coffee mugs in the bookstore, then back on the bike.

Lots of nice farms

Lots of farms are Amish.   The more well-tended they are, the more likely to be Amish, in my experience.   They really like clean and neat.

And this horse was hustling down the road.  I don’t know what gait he was using, but he was moving right along.   A horse person can probably tell from the leg positions.

Got a little of everything ‘round here.

You can google these guys (use “Red House” in the search) if you want to know more.

Got back in good form, happy and safe.

VERY seldom do I wear ties; used to have to wear them sometimes, so I've got a bunch.   But there's a school function at that very college this May, most people will be in a coat and tie, the colors are Garnet and Gray, and I didn't have a one.

Other than that, funerals .... More often than I like, and not likely to decline.

Very nice Lannis  :thumb: It's always great to see places I'm  unlikely to get to - although I'm  often in Prince Edward County, just not that one.  Nice looking country and quiet roads.

Thanks

Nick

I'll add a short report. Went for a Sunday ride and rode 35 miles to the local bike hangout, a Speedway gas station.  Met some friends there and we went for lunch at Poncho's Villa, best Mexican food in the area. Went back to the Speedway and met another friend who was talking to a new Motus R owner. Just moved to FL 3 months ago and was disappointed with the riding here. All flat and straight. So I volunteered to show him a few roads. 3 hours later we returned to the Speedway and he expressed he feels a whole lot better about moving  to FL. That Motus is quite the machine. Motus owner was impressed by my Norge as well.

Perhaps you missed my ride report from yesterday:

The Mason-Dixon is a man-made line, which became symbolic of some social upheaval. I rode along a naturally occurring fault-line - the San Andreas, which is about a geologic upheaval.

Oops, I DID miss it .... Sorry about that.   Don't know what happened, I'm usually up on WG stuff.   Maybe some combination of "California" and "GPS" exerted a subliminal repulsion on my keyboard fingers.   I'll try to do better, I really will.

Glad you pointed me to it.   Some magnificent scenery there, good roads, and photos well taken.   I can imagine a Motus and a Norge rider sharing "ride impressions" out on the road.   I tried a Norge once and didn't fit; I tried a Motus and it didn't fit in my bank account ... !   Half the fun is the people you meet ....

Not your fault...

Never let Lannis off that easily.

He made a mistake and must pay for it.

That he pled guilty only goes to sentencing.

Bill

P.S. Forgot to add that both of your ride reports were great.  One of these (warmer) days, I'll try to do contribute.

Not your fault...

For sure!  The faults around Lannis' area are much less active than the San Andreas.

Nice looking country, and some good shots there Lannis. Thanks.

I admit that the "down under" had me going. Now I know about the Mason-Dixon Line. You learn new something every day on W.G. :thumb:
