Guzzidiag and Check Engine Light

Probably a dumb question.   I've got a persistent check engine light on my 2013 V7 stone, single throttle body small block.  I've been meaning to get Guzzidiag and load a Beetle map.

Does Guzzidiag read fault codes so I would know for certain why I've got a CEL?

My CEL comes on quite often but by the time I get around to putting Guzzidiag on it's cleared itself.

One thing I think it may be is low battery Voltage, it can come on first thing in the morning and reset itself on a later start.

It's ridiculous that we have to connect a laptop onto the bike, it should show up a code on the dash.

I had the bike apart for a month to do the clutch.  No CEL before I took it apart.  Now a constant CEL.  I stupidly left the detached headers sitting just off my porch, and they filled up with rain water.  So I'm about 99.9% sure that the Lambda sensors are fubar.  All other electrical connectors are good, everything is hooked up and snug. 

Just don't want to replace relatively expensive O2 sensors if that's not the fault.  And I may not replace them at all if I get a Beetle map.  I believe that map turns off the sensors anyway.

Yes, the Beetle maps usually turn off the lambda sensors, but to test the sensors, just unplug them at the connectors (LHS under the side cover, RHS in front of the battery) and see if you still get the engine light. With no power, they don't get to talk to the ECU. You can get sensor blanking plugs on the net - M18x1.5 - best to use a washer, they've a tendency to unscrew themselves with the vibration. Both my V7's seems to working fine without the sensors.

Vagrants V7 had a CEL. Guzzidiag indicated the O2 sensors were open circuited. He had unplugged them. So we plugged them in and then GuzziDiag said they were bad. Duh, that is why he unplugged them. So I used GuzziDiag to turn them off. The light went out, the error codes are gone, and he claims it runs better. YMMV.

If you just unplug them without turning them off, you get a CEL for sure.

I’ve run it 500 miles now.  Bike runs fine despite CEL.   I’m getting the same gas mileage I always do.

The Iii doesn't need a map but earlier years would benefit based On my 2015.

Hello,
On my V7 III I removed the probes.
I had to deactivate them, with Guzzidiag then Tunerpro.
Then to disconnect them and remove I had to place a resistor (600ohm, 1 / 4W is fine), otherwise I had the engine light for a probe heating fault, visible under Guzzidiag.

With an exhaust without catalyst, I was finally able to enrich, especially the small openings, for a much more pleasant operation (and solve some pinging).

Where would I find the control to turn them off on my V85  in Guzzidiag ?

It is not possible with GuzziDiag 

You have to switch off the Lamda regulation, this diasables also all errors which are related.
For this you have to use TunerPro and my XDF file for the V85TT.
You have to use the IAW7SMReader to get the binary image of your software,
change the flag with TunerPro,
and write the modified file back with the IAW7SMWriter.

I don't think that you will do this.

If your error moves if you exchange the sensors, simply buy a new one.
A replacement type is not so expensive.

Smith, they were on the "does anybody own a V7 " thread on adv rider a few weeks back. July 8-2020 page 716 About $50 each or 1/2 price. I'll take a look for them if nobody pops up with them.


I would also see if Rock auto can reference the part # they are usually cheaper even with freight.
