Correct Plugs/Caps for 2016 V7II

Guys,

I'm starting the plugs/caps RnR for the V7II and wondered if this was correct. The new caps seem to just have an empty space for these threaded plug ends to sit inside. Seems wrong. Also, I'm nervous about having enough length in my plug wire after removing the OEM cap.

RESULTS:

These do indeed work and work well. I gapped the plugs at just under .9mm after seeing a few suggestions for that.

My biggest problem was getting the OEM caps off the wire. The left plug wire would not come off. I was twisting it and just revealing the electrical center wire. The right side was much different. It came off easily and with the OEM insert still attached. THIS IS MUCH PREFERRED. I was able to snip it off, attach the new cap and with plenty of slack. The left side had to be trimmed by about an inch on an already snug fitting wire. I really have to massage it now for it to reach without pulling too much. I think you should try to hold the OEM cap low on the unit so the screw off piece can come free (see picture of this thing).

Used a bit of dialectic grease on the plug grommets and the new caps snapped right into place (not quite sure how?  ).

Bike started right up and test ride proved to run excellent. Very responsive to the throttle and no de-cel pops.

I'm far too humble to think that Pete could ever possibly be wrong, but according to everything I know, NGK XD05F caps and CPR8EA-9 plugs are the CORRECT match.

I can't offer much advice on the insert problem, since I haven't done that yet.

I second.  Other thread(s) have pointed out that the MI service bulletin stating the XB cap was incorrect and the XD is a better fit.

FWIW I also emailed NGK about the same issue a little while back and the response was this:


Thank you for contacting us! You will need plug cap XD05F for the NGK CPR8EA-9.

I went with these caps because of multiple sources (including the one quoted from NGK).

Was having a few issues with poor starts when cold... decided to gap the plug at the factory specs. Pulling out one of the caps, one of the rubber grommets had gotten a bit askew and may have been preventing a normal spark. Put everything together with .65mm gap and boom. Good to go.

How easy is it to replace spark plug wires on this bike? I can't find any info. Is the coil hard to get access to? This Stone model would look good with Guzzi red plug wires.

The coils aren't hard to get to at all - attached to the frame under the tank. The HT wire is standard stuff, but on the single TB there's not much point in paying extra for the pretty colour, the HT wire is completely hidden. I believe you would need that standard brass clip on the coil ends, but the the NGK caps screw onto the other end.

BTW - on the '14 V7 Special, I'm using NGK CR9EK plugs with XD05F-R caps. Yeah, the red cap can't be seen, but it pushes on to the plug's thread with audible & tangible feedback.
