Ruptured Budgie Rally - riding buddies
« on: April 18, 2017, 07:16:03 PM »
Hi all,
I'm travelling down to Mingoola from Cairns for the Ruptured Budgie Rally , leaving on Wednesday the 17th of May and planning to get there on the Friday. I'm heading north again from Monday and need to be back in Cairns by Wednesday evening.
I'll be zig-zagging a bit on the way there and back to find some nice roads.
Are there any riders out there travelling down or back that would like to have a ring-in for the trip? It'd be nice to have a bit of company. I was going to hammock camp, but could stay in pubs or whatever.

Yeah, I am going to the rally from Roma and will probably leave early on the Friday. Going via Goondiwindi, so, it is probably not on your route, but, you could try an inland route for fun. 0428221897.

Cheers

Dh8a, not sure if I can get away yet, but will come down if work allows. You have a bed here in Gladstone if needed.
My route down is to go south to Gin Gin, then to Biggenden , Ban Ban springs, Goomeri, Nanango, Toowoomba, Stanthorp,  then out to Mingoola.

My hammock will be erected at the rally site on the Wednesday, alongside a couple of palaces. We will await with bated breath. Right.

Are there more than two trees at the site?

Loads, likely enough for dozens of hammocks within cooee of the beer tent & the beach & lots more a little further out in every direction. The only problem you'll have is deciding which site.

The site is basically a river bed/over flow, mixed sand, rocks ,grass and some trees.
Getting in before lunch on Friday will give you the best chance of nailing a good mostly level maybe rock free campsite.
Don't get there before me though. :boozing:
It usually has a river, Aussie bush and beer, what more could you ask for.
Its one of the last old style bush rally ie its not in a bloody show ground or caravan park.
See you there, possibly, they usually get around 250+.

Cheers

And the local Lions Club put on a good kitchen. The first year at the new site in 2011 (the old one was washed away by the flood) they had more than 400, I believe, and there was still enough room for as many more, if a little spread out. If you can possibly get there, don't miss it.

I've heard that Moey's 1200 Sport is heading down from Toowoomba too, so that's at least 4 of those 1200 Sports going to be there.

A reminder for you FNQ blokes. It has, on some occasions, been known to be COLD down in the riverbed. Not the last few year, but certainly previously. Bring some warm gear, just in case, or visit Vinnies on the way down. And I know how sensitive you guys are to anything below 20C.

Both Stones & Dr Jurd have been the ruin of many a poor boy, but that ruin only lasts a couple of days. Girls with painted on jeans on the other hand ...... And the Karuah River Rally is still going, although this year's was called off, tinder dry & threat of serious bush fires, I seem to remember. Just before the last lot of heavy rains.
