What is this connector? V7II

I heard a vibrating sound on my V7II Special recently when accelerating and it appears to be the connector in the photo rattling against the headlight. Any idea what it is and where it should be? I don't recall seeing it before.

 

The green connector part looks clean which makes me think it should be plugged in or have some sort of cap on it. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks Steve. I don't know what a gps plug looks like but it's strange how the rubber surround looks aged for a new bike with ~2000km on it.

I took it to the dealers the other day to have them sort the leaky brake fluid reservoir. I wonder if it's some kind of diagnostic point they accessed and forgot to tuck back in.

It's a fused plug for a TomTom GPS.
I cut the plug off & used the cable for spotlights.

Specifically tom tom or any gps? I'm curious as to where it's supposed to be. Maybe that's the plug that can be used as a USB power point?

I installed the Guzzi GPS on Norges, green plug and kind of a u shape. They use the TomTom Rider.

It's just a fused 12VDC supply.

Shouldn't it be tucked away in a dry place or have a cap? I was riding the day before in extremely heavy rain. Last I heard was that water and electrics aren't ideal companions.

If it's a live supply I'd definitely get a cover onto it, just in case

I know nothing about a V7, I seen one once but that's as far as I go.

No idea of the wire gauge but if its specifically for a GPS I wouldn't have thought it be of sufficient CSA to support a load like aux lights.

However we are talking Guzzi electrics so it could be hugely over sized and I'm talking out my ass

On my bikes, I cut that end off and replaced it with an SAE polarized two pin plug. Cheap and readily available at any parts store. Once that is complete, using the other end of the plug, I can power any GPS I desire with the switched wire.  They are usually hanging on a peg in the trailer section. Both ends of the plug with a foot or so of wire in the middle. 3 bucks or so. If you decide to install this plug, you want the positive side that is the covered pin connected to the bike wire. That way, if you had nothing plugged into it, you will not run the risk of it shorting to ground and blowing a fuse.

Yes you could use it as a USB power point, but as I mentioned, it is switched. So, it will turn off when you turn the key off. If that is what you want, that is great, but if you want to be able to charge your phone when the bike is stopped then I would suggest running a wire from the battery with an inline fuse to a USB jack or whatever.

These power plugs for TomTom GPS mounts have been present on the V7's since at least 2013.  My '13 V7 and my '16 V7II both had/have them.  If you prefer to use it instead of cutting it off, there are a couple of sources of mating sockets, one from Mercedes and another from BMW.  Scout around these forums and you'll find them.   The rubber around the rear portion of the plug looks normal to me, not prematurely aged.  I agree that the end should be covered if it's not being used.

Also, the leaking front brake reservoir cap is a common problem beginning around 2016 when MG switched to the 2-piece cap (2B001928).  The cure, covered under warranty in my case, was for the dealer to replace it with the earlier 3-piece cap assembly (GU03661145).  Happy riding.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Malik mentioned the car plugs in a pm too so I'll have a look but if this is 12v then it will need something to convert it to usb 5v wouldn't it? Sorry for the newb questions.

Do as Zoom Zoom suggests (and what I do too) is cut off the connector and replace with the defacto motorcycle standard aux SAE connector.

On the V7-II there's another spare 12V supply plug tucked loosely down behind the airbox. This plug is a more standard type.

I tucked mine down so at least water doesn't drain into it.  Yup, my master leaked too (get a proper one as Sib points out)..and timing cover...lol.  Sad for a new bike really...

12V systems can be under water and not short out. The problem comes in when a connector gets water in, cannot get out, and corrodes the copper, pins, etc... A connector left uncapped isn't a normal method of leaving stuff hanging, but not the end of the world in this case.

I'd prefer a capped connector, but cutting and putting a sealed general purpose connector is what I do. Mine currently has a Deutsch connector (I have a full kit) and an extension for my Garmin that plugs in directly. YMMV.
