"Skyotes eat Buckers"
« on: June 22, 2017, 08:43:44 PM »
If you are not an aviation nut, that won't mean much to you. I like phrases like that... I suppose that is why I bought a new custom tee shirt (long sleeve so I can ride with it) that says on the back: "Moto Guzzi Stelvio". I will wear it when I go to my local pub and sit at the bar. Back to the aviation themed phrase... Bucker Jungmeisters were the primary trainer for Luftwaffe pilots in the 1930's. Skyotes are an airplane developed in the 1970's in the US... a nimble, homebuilt design that had a loyal following.  Moto Guzzi Stelvios are an Itali... well, you know that. I saw someone wearing the shirt that said "Skyotes Eat Buckers" at a fly-in, and I was quite taken with it. Just shows how we all have our niches in life, and tend to not venture far afield.  Today, I pulled up to a gas pump and there was a 50ish Harley rider gassing up. I noticed his bike was a Softail, and since I have owned both a 2001 and now own an identical 2017 Heritage Softail, I struck up a conversation with him, asking him what year it was. We chatted for a while and I mentioned that I was really a Moto Guzzi man, and he got a curious look on his face... he asked if that was a kind of oil. No, No, it is an Italian Motorcycle brand, I said. They have V twin cylinders like a Harley, but turned like this, as I proceeded to show him with my hands. He had another curious look on his face and said nothing. I suppose that the next Harley rider that I have a conversation with, I shall tell him that I ride a Bucker Jungmeister... the sport model. Maybe I should start selling tee shirts that say "Stelvios eat GSs"... No, would only sell a few. But! "GSs eat Stelvios" might be a best seller... well except that most GS owners probably have no Idea what a Stelvio is. "GSs eat Buckers" (both German brands... the Germans would know)... Hey! That's the ticket!     Lee in New Mexico

Bucker Jungmeisters were the primary trainer for Luftwaffe pilots in the 1930's. Skyotes are an airplane developed in the 1970's in the US... a nimble, homebuilt design that had a loyal following

The Jungmann was the trainer, and the Jungmeister was the single seat high performance version.  The latter is worth maybe three times as much as the former today.  The Skyote was a single seater too, cheaper and more practical but much influenced by the Jungmeister.

How about "Grisos eat R9Ts for Breakfast and Monsters for lunch?"

Jungmeister is the only airplane that I have seen tumble while doing aerobatics. That's doing endo's a great strain on the airframe.

I have to admit, I am surprised that several people responded with accurate information on Buckers, almost immediately... Who could have known? Well, maybe it should be no surprise that Moto Guzzi followers would be very worldly and knowledgeable about other adventurers in life... I like to think that I am. Cheers to you!   Lee
Oh, By the way, I built 2 Pietenpols with Corvair Engines. "Pietenpols eat Buckers" just doesn't work.

Many consider the Jungmeister to be the finest handling small airplane ever designed. Guys *love* the (sort of) similar but much simpler Skyote and similar Rose Parakeet. It's much too late in my life, or I would build a Skyote..
Placard on the panel of a Jungmeister seen at Oshkosh many many years ago:
