PSA: '81 Guzzi Cafe at auction
« on: June 15, 2017, 07:30:49 AM »
I didn't see this posted already, so I thought I'd share. I'm a BAT junkie, and this clean simple bike showed up this morning.

I like it, though, I would've at least cleaned up the engine better and polished the rocker covers.

Look at those rearsets!

Oh my aching knees.

You know at the Belmont they only have to "assume the position" for 12 furlongs (about 2 1/2 minutes)

I hope they replaced the hoses in that Bub sump. They are just air fittings with rubber air hose jammed on and can rot and burst in use creating an internal oil leak that can total an engine. They really need custom braided oil lines made for their internals.
yeah, I might be addicted to brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.

Those mufflers look a mile long. I too would have cleaned up under the seat, and put a front fender on. That's a big headlight bucket.

.  To each their own. I did San Francisco to Vancouver BC and back on my CX and thought the pegs were the most comfortable thing about the bike. Put Tarozzis on at a later date just because they looked cool and ,in my youthful enthusiasm just couldn't leave well enough alone. They were not more comfortable to me on my next trip ( SF to Seattle and back), so back went the stockers.

I have the same rearsets on my 850T and with a café seat that is lower then stock (on my bike), the rearsets are higher than almost any sportbike that I have owned.

Bringatrailer used to be fun to follow, they would find cool cars for sale on Craigslist or ebay and write about them. Now they just hold auctions and charge way too high of a buyer's fee.

I've ridden my CX cross country and like both it's sets of pegs for an option, depending what my legs feel like riding long distances and when it comes to straights I usually use the passenger pegs and the front pegs in the twisties as then the bike frame is more solid and the rear /front brakes closer as needed.  :thumb:  Find no need for after market peg changes.  Maybe since I had my Corbin seat raised 3/4" helps too when I bought it decades ago.

I owned a CX100 years ago. I always thought their pegs on it were as close to perfectly located as could be possible.

bids up to 9K.....

I don't know how long ago "used to" is but they still offer CL et al listings and reviews daily, and I keep a roll of towels on hand every time I open the email....

With about one day left on the auction, this CX100 is starting to get some serious money love!

I like this build, but agree with the auction comments about the missing front fender. I would need that in place to ride it.

Agree with all the previous comments

No front fender/mudguard
The exhausts look too long
Not much of a fan of the giant headlight bucket, that's more commonly seen on older British Iron

I'd be also be asking about (Pete would not be happy)
"The engine has been rebuilt with big valve heads, higher compression pistons, straight cut timing gears, and larger 36MM carbs"

Overall it's a nice cafe, but I cannot help but feel that a standard CX 1000 is far nicer looking thing.

If it had been me I would have attempted to return it to something closer to the way Guzzi intended that machine to be.

I agree on the front fender... seems like every custom you see now is lacking :-/

I like the headlight, yeah it looks a little long, but the inset gauge & lights are cool.  I think it just needs some cooler ears...  maybe the spring type off an old Duc

I'd want to ride that bike with those heads before spending that kind of money on the bike.

With regard to the rearsets, I have Agostini's on mine with the stock seat and clip-ons, and for me it is quite comfortable. Now, if I converted the bike to handlebars instead of clip-ons it would be a different story, but then why would I make it an SP instead of keeping it a Lemans?

Anyway, hope he gets his price.
