Tommaselli Datona 2C throttle assembly
« on: June 23, 2017, 07:02:05 AM »
This throttle is on 1974 Eldorado. At the end of handle bar on throttle side is a nut with some sort of cable/rod going into bar. Unit will pull out slightly when I tug on it.
What function does this serve? Thanks for any help.

There are 2 as I remember

One is a stop to prevent you stretching the cable and eventually breaking it

The other is a friction screw to increase or decrease the pressure needed to open and close the throttle.

You can see them both at the top of the pic below

If it is at the far end of the bar sounds like a bar end weight to keep vibration down on the bars. Only one end?

I thought it was for use on Ducatis that have a push-me-pull-you arrangement on the throttles.

Paul it is only on throttle side. I don't think it is a bar end weight, and without removing throttle assembly I can't tell if it attaches to throttle assembly or runs up to something else. I need to figure out how to post a picture as that will be worth 1000 words.

Ok I got it wrong  :embarrassed: sorry on the end then

On my 2C there is nothing on the end, the throttle tube slides on and housing of the cables is a 2 piece.

Anything on the end is not connected to the throttle if it's the same as the Tomaselli 2C on my LM 1000

Wow, ain't never seenone o those  before  Possible mount for a hand guard or some such  item. Can you unscrew it a few turns to dislodge it to see if it moves ?  Looking through the tomasellli catalogs I don't think it''s anything they made. Found on fleabay... in one of the pics you you can see something similarhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/1974-Moto-Guzzi-Eldorado-Police/322555904601?_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507&_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3Dfbcb3fa52b0c49c8868f803773da53e4%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D322555904601

If you losen the nut does it appear to be spring loaded?

Paul that is similar real mystery to me now. I will fuss around with it tomorrow. It may be spring loaded to operate ejector seat. :undecided:

Got out to garage to look closer at device in end of handle bar. Possibly it may be some sort of throttle lock. Any loop frame guys see anything like it. I won't be using it just curious as to it function.[img][img]

It's a Twist-Assist, Gregory Bender has some info about it on his web site This Old Tractor. Originally it would have had a knob on the end of it. Was made to help make the throttle easier to turn and you could use it as a cruise control/throttle lock. Pretty cool piece of kit in its day !!!

Ain't that amazing! Looking as to how it works now, you can probably rebuild yours and have a cool cruise control.
